What's the minimum diameter of hole (inside measurement) measurable? (small jaw tips don't close to zero, it seems?)

A good question! It really depends on how deep you need to get the caliper jaws. If they only have to just be inside the internal space of the object you could certainly measure down to 1 mm. But if you needed to get a little deeper you could only measure down to 2 mm and this minimum would increase as you got deeper because of the width of the jaws. I have just tried them measuring the inside dimension of a very small nut and I managed 1mm comparitively easily.

Technical details state: "power source type: battery powered". what is a battery required for ?

If the option does not have a digital display, you do not need any battery. I gave up with digital displays as every time I went to use them, the battery was dead!
