Windslayer Cover for GoPro Hero 7/6/5 Action Camera Wind Muff

I bought this after doing a long kayaking trip with a GoPro, the footage of which was almost ruined with constant wind noise. I did a bit of research and saw one of these as a potential solution. From my work as a sound engineer I didn't expect much from just a foam wind shield, but it was only cheap so I gave it a go. Was blown away (excuse the pun!) by how effective it was. I guess because the mics on a GoPro are so small, the thickness of this is enough to make a substantial difference. So I went back out in the kayak to a local spot that usually gets a lot of wind. I did a few minutes without the wind-slayer, then a few minutes with. Back in the studio the verdict was clear. Without it the wind noise was noticeable, annoying and amateur sounding. With it on the wind noise was almost completely killed. With a particularly strong gust you could still hear a little bit of a rumble, but nothing I couldn't edit with a bit of low frequency cut. The fact I was able to sit in the wind on a kayak, talk to camera, and that be perfectly useable professional sounding video has earned it 5 stars. Another bonus of this is that it protects the camera if you drop it. I've dropped one on a concrete floor before and dented it, but this would have protected it.

Much better quality than I was expecting for the price. Good material and well cut. Nice fit for my GoPro Hero 8 Black and does what it’s intended to - cuts wind noise nicely. Haven’t tried it up to significant speed as yet but really happy with it so far.

We'll get the negatives out of the way first. The description claims that it 'allow you easily to get access to all function port and buttons, battery doors, memory card, lens etc.' This is incorrect. Once the foam is in position you can see the rear screen and touch the mode and shutter buttons, which is all that you need in practical use. However, if you want access to the battery doors and memory card the only way to achieve it is by taking the foam off, so you are going to be taking it off fairly frequently. As supplied, and as the illustrations show, the camera has to be removed from whatever it is mounted on before the foam can be put on the camera. I didn't like this, and therefore I put a single cut in the foam at the top right of the mounting square for the base, running to near the bottom right of the rectangular hole for the rear screen. This makes the foam actually extremely easy to put on and take off without removing the mounting and probably without impacting it's performance. However, the cut could probably be held in position with tape or perhaps velcro if necessary. I am a cyclist and have tried the foam in position with a light breeze, plus the 15mph or higher wind that I create by riding along. I noted where a distinct breeze was hitting me and this was either not noticeable or barely noticeable on the recorded film. Certainly the Hero 7's recorded sound is far better with the foam than it was without it, and as such this item can be thoroughly recommended. The only reason I have not given five stars is that time will tell how durable it proves, but the manufacturer's claim that it is of good quality seems to me accurate, and the cut I mentioned earlier will mean stretching it less than would otherwise have been the case. I had the Hero 7's sound set on Auto, for those who are interested, but have seen claims that a foam baffle allows the use of the Stereo setting.

Bought for the GoPro 9, used on a van trip around Europe, when I first saw it I thought it would fall to bits after being pulled on and off etc, but it held up really well, after months of daily use its still in great shape, cancelled out unwanted wind noise when in use, didn't try it out of the window when driving but most windstoppers wouldn't be able to cancel out to that level, certainly not at this price point, Cheap, easy to use and fits well....get one bought

I bought this because when paragliding the wind noise on my GoPro 8 totally dominated the audio making it unusable. After using this foam cover the wind noise has gone but you can hear every other sound totally perfectly. Installing the cover is easy, it has an appropriate hole in the bottom so the folding attachment fingers can be used and also appropriate holes for the power and shutter buttons. Overall, I am pleased with the product, it seems robust but I’ve only had it a week so cannot comment on its long term durability, however, I cannot see why there should be any problem.

Not great. Reduced wind noise when attached to the helmet while filming on my motorbike by maybe 10%.

When it arrived in a clear plastic bag, I thought this was going to have been a waste of time, effort and money. Unpacked, I really couldn't understand how it was going to fit with all the functionality of the GoPro remaining accessable. However, I gently eased it over the body of the camera, ensuring the features (lens, screen etc) matched up with the holes in the sponge, and OK, I was wrong. Fits like a glove and does axactly what it should. Good product for a sensible price.

Just like the gopro hero 7 if doing any fast moving sports you need a wind guard if want audible sound and not just the wind. This is the first one I have seen that is for the hero 8. Fits well and works but loses a star as expensive for a piece of foam

Das Gehäuse aus Schaumstoff erübrigt für meine Zwecke ein externes Mikrofon. Es dämmt komplett die Fahrtwind Geräusche ab, und der Ton ist dennoch nicht zu dumpf. Habe es auf einer GoPro Hero 7 Black. Qualität 1A würde ich jederzeit wieder kaufen.

L' ho preso per mio figlio che ha una go pro 7 e ama fare riprese video andando in moto. Copre perfettamente la telecamera e riduce del 90% il rumore del vento. Lui è rimasto molto molto soddisfatto

Réduit drastiquement le bruit du vent même par temps ou ça souffle pas mal (ma GoPro est sur mon casque avec une mentonnière).

Efficace pour atténuer les bruits de fond, par contre attention ...... la caméra ne se ventile plus par grosse chaleur et risque de se mettre en sécurité ..Le problème m est arrivé plusieurs fois avec une héro 6 black.
