Building a business doing something I felt so passionate about seemed like a dream come true
Why you need to read "Being the Starfish". Have you put off reading the book? So did I. I now realize what a big mistake that was. I would be so much further along in building a doTERRA business had I read it when my leader first suggested it. Instead, I ended up spending the entire spring and summer of 2016 STUCK. Let me explain. From the very beginning when I started using doTERRA EOs, I felt a passion to help people through the power of EOs. Building a business doing something I felt so passionate about seemed like a dream come true. But then, the doubts started. I had heard many sermons over the years about "the love of money being the root of all evil" (1 Timothy 6:10) and "you can't serve God and money" (Matthew 6:24). A real struggle in my heart and mind basically paralyzed me at this point. I wanted to help people but I also wanted to experience true financial freedom. I spent the next six months trying to reconcile this but I was so conflicted, I put building a business on the back burner. But - thoughts of building a successful business with doTERRA entered my mind EVERY SINGLE DAY. Finally, in mid-August, My leader reached out and began to guide me back into actively trying to build again. And right about that time, out of the blue, two people contacted me. One is one of my best friends who had come to a class in April. She was ready to enroll and not only that - she was ready to build a business herself. The second person asked me to come to Austin and teach a class. (I had tried and tried to get her to host a class months before to no avail). I began to feel excited again. I felt like God was putting His blessing on my decision to build the business again. As My leader continued to guide and encourage me, she quoted the book several times. I finally decided to order it. And - in the very first chapter - Neal Anderson states "our primary goal was to understand others and help them get that which will improve their life's significance. Sharing is about being more concerned for others than you are about yourself, your company or your bank account". He also said we "help others access products that change their lives, so they can love God and others abundantly". WHAT??!! Reading that was an answer to prayer. Oh, if I had only read it when I first began building as she suggested!!! In the book, you will find the encouragement you need, the motivation you need, teaching and guidance you need to truly propel you forward with confidence and purpose. And I realize that it will help me be the kind of amazing leader that Janna has been to me. I thought it so important that I ordered three more copies for my own Builders (I have one now but I know the others will be coming soon). So, don't put it off any longer. Get the book, read it, be inspired and get out there and serve people!!

My doTERRA team and I are so thankful for the Skill Set taught in this book! Easy to read and easy to apply. Thanks, Neal!
Tool set? Got it. Mind set? That, too! Skill set? Ummm...crickets.I honestly believe that I do have the best "job" in the world. I get to empower people and I get to help them rediscover how to support their body's systems with healthy lifestyles. I believe that doTERRA has the best "tools" for my "tool set". I am so motivated to help others just because that in itself is rewarding but the fact that I earn commission based on how well I serve others and that the harder I work at serving others, the higher my commission checks are is so motivating. So, as far as "mind set" goes, I feel like I have that, too. But, I've never been in sales before... So, after the tool set and the mind set are personally covered, how can I serve my Leaders and my team by helping them duplicate what I'm doing if I don't know the "recipe" myself?!?! I have needed help building my Skill Set.Neal Anderson's book, Being the STARfish was timely... actually, I wish I'd had it from the beginning! But, if I couldn't have it from the start (August 2012), the second best time is today, right! :) Being the STARfish was helpful... Because Neal has years of successful experience in serving others and in coaching people how to serve others well, he has my attention. He employs many helpful tools from other successful doTERRA leaders, leaders outside of doTERRA, like Simon Sinek, and Neal even drew from the Word of God, of whom I'm a big fan.Neal and his wife, Erin are successful doTERRA Blue Diamond Leaders, so listening to what they have to share about how we can also be successful doTERRA Leaders is a pretty intelligent idea. ;)Thank you, Neal! My team and I appreciate you!Blessings~Kalli KenneydoTERRA Diamond Wellness Advocate

Great book!
There is nothing I dislike about this book! I read it years ago, loved it then, loaned it out to someone who lost it. I have wanted to read it again, so I decided to purchase another one. It's as good as I remember.

I drank the Kool-aid and it was delicious!
I love this book and the training I received from Neal Anderson. I found out about Neal and his workshop soon after I started using essential oils and thought about sharing. I had never done anything like this before and after attending his workshop, which was very informative, well taught and a pleasant experience, I knew I wanted to share my "why" with everyone I could. I "highly" recommend this book and the next one that will be out soon! If you want to be inspired, challenged and have the tools to become your very best at leading then you should do yourself a favor and start following Neal Anderson. You can find more information on his website as well [...]

Awesome Guide for Business
A must read! I have read this book several times and have it highlighted and postit noted! Have done it as a book club with members of my team. One of the first books I encourage new business builders to read. So many great tips in the book but especially like how the teaches us how people buy and helps set us up to help our clients make their buying decision. Fairly quick read full of practical business advice that you will refer back to over and over again.

Only Worth Buying Used And Not Paying For Shipping
So many people raved about this book so I bought and read it... The only reason I rated it a 3 is because I didn't "hate" it and it did have some redeeming value to me. Do yourself a favor and read the last two chapters and skip the rest. Too much stuff based on the author's religious beliefs and not enough quotes from secular sources. The majority of the scripture sited is taken completely out of context and he mentions several times that its not about making money its about serving others yet he definitely talks a lot about making money from people.Don't buy it, borrow a friend's copy and copy the last two chapters.

Useless if you don’t sell doTerra products
Absolutely useless if you want to get general insight about sharing any products you’re trying to sell, all is focused on doTerra business yet no part of the cover, back cover or editor’s comments warns about this. You notice the author is not a writer from the first page and has no marketing formal education at all, besides those religious quotes and tips are kinda useless for us people who don’t follow any religion. If my niece hadn’t put my name on it I’d have asked for a refund. In my case, money totally wasted.

My mistake I guess. I thought this was a manual on advertising (in general) with heart, the products and services that one truly cherishes. This is a sales book for DoTerra Essential Oils, or any other pyramid scale business. I am not a salesperson for any business, just a blogger wanting to phrase things in a good light to interest others. This book was not helpful or interesting at all. Main focus was SELL, harass any potential clientele. Um, no thanks.
