Q: Can this be used to make nukazuke pickles?

Not sure what moonwalker is talking about but, yes, it can. You’ll need to season according to a nukadoko recipe (recommend roasting the rice bran first for best flavor) but it can absolutely make delicious nukazuke!

Q: Has this been tested for arsenic?

I inquired to the company about test results for inorganic ( human carcinogen) arsenic. They replied quickly and stated it to contain less than 2 parts per million (ppm = mcg/g). The USDA in 2013 published analytical testing results of inorganic arsenic levels in a variety of products. One was a hot/ready to eat rice bran cereal ( no brand was identified) tested to have 30 mcg per serving based on package information of one serving size. The WHO arsenic guidelines determined the lowest level to raise the risk of lung cancer .5% was 2-7 mcg/kg of body weight per day. For a 70 kg person, approx. 176 pounds, that would be from 140 to 490 mcg per day. This brand's serving size is 15 grams, which based on company's response of having less than 2 ppm ( mcg/g) the serving size would contain less than 30 mcg per serving which is in line with the USDA testing results of a rice bran cereal. It would seem to be low risk of inorganic arsenic ill health effects if consuming less than several servings of rice bran per day for average sized adults. Young children are more sensitive to the toxic effects of heavy metals in the food chain and may likely have lower tolerable limits.
