Olde Thompson 6 Caffe Wood Pepper Mill and Salt Shaker Set

I looked a very long time for an elegant looking, wood grain Salt & Pepper set that actually worked, especially one that let me shake the salt (not grind it) and grind the pepper with adjustable grind sizing. These turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. At first, I wasn't too enamored with the clear window part (thinking it detracted from the overall look), but I quickly learned to love it because I no longer have to guess when to refill them. The other thing that surprised me a bit (pleasantly) was the capacity - they hold much more salt and pepper than I thought they might. I use them regularly, and will probably get a backup set just in case these wear out.

My trusty Olde Thompson carbon steel pepper grinder I had from my first years of married life finally gave out and I wanted to try out a few others I was told were of better quality. So I went online and bought a Peugeot Paris USelect, a Cole and Mason, and this Olde Thompson grinder set. Out of the three, I keep going back to the Olde Thompson. It also happened to the the most inexpensive of the three. So you can go with the hype and buy a more expensive grinder, but from my experience, the most effective and reliable grinder happened to be the least expensive. It grinds with no issues, no halts or catches, and has a smooth mechanism. I like the acrylic window strip so I can see when the pepper is getting low and refill it. The walnut finish is very pretty. I have a modern style kitchen so the acrylic design fits in nicely too.One last thing to note - the salt shaker wasn't very good. Its very hard to shake salt out of it. I use fine baked sea salt and it doesn't sprinkle out worth a darn. But I did just buy the set because I wanted a 7.5 inch grinder, the perfect height for easy handling.

These are a good size and the pepper grinder grinds nice and sharp

I love these shakers. They are made of durable wood with a good finish. They've been in my kitchen now for several months and haven't stained/chipped/show any signs of wear or degradation due to humidity. Easy to use. Pretty in the home. The pepper grinder works well, except it was supposed to be adjustable - however I found the range of grain sizes very limited. If you like larger flakes then this won't be for you. I creates a fine dust up to the size of course sand.

I love this product! Exactly what I was looking for and performance is perfect. Salt pour is controllable and pepper grind is whatever you want it to be. Buy it!

I have been looking for a Peppermill for a long time and had not found what I wanted. So when I saw these, I ordered and I was not disappointed. They also show how much of the salt and pepper are left so it is easy to determine when refill is needed. They are also very attractive. I would recommend them.

I bought a set of these several years ago and I liked them a lot. But earlier this year the pepper mill failed (the metal grinder gizmoid separated from the wood because the wood wore out at the interface). Since I'd liked them before the failure and since they worked perfectly for a long while, I decided to get another set (I wished I could have just bought the pepper mill because there was nothing wrong with the salt shaker). However, the new pepper mill has only a single grind: very fine. I cannot adjust for a course grind - or anywhere in between - like I could easily do with its predecessor. Quite frustrated.

Very nice looking. Looks great on any table setting. Grinds the pepper very fine.

I was really pleased with the quality of the peppermill & salt shaker. I use fresh pepper a lot and I love how smooth the peppermill operates. It is not hard to turn and you get a nice even grind. You can adjust the grind by turning the screw at the top (fine or course). A nice compliment to your table or sitting on top of your stove!
