Great Safe
Good little safe. I would recommend getting the two pistol safe as this is just enough space to hold two pistols and some clips.

WALL MOUNTED!! 100% accurate scanner, can be modded to run on AC, and I was able to gain access w/o keys/scanner/buttons.
UPDATED 7-6-16: I bought into the whole idea that this unit had to be horizontal - on a night stand, for example. The problem is that space on my nightstand is at a premium, and inevitably, things get placed on top of the safe. That makes for a potentially dangerous scenario. Should I need quick access, the safe may not open, or it may cause items to fall - which will make noise - letting the intruder know where I am, and that I'm awake. After receiving a number of questions from prospective customers about whether this unit can be wall mounted, I started to research others' answers. OF COURSE it can be wall mounted. And, to prevent the contents from falling out when it's opened, you install a couple of gun magnets for 7 bucks. I just finished installing the safe on the wall directly above my head. I can easily, silently, and in complete darkness, open the safe, put my dominant hand on the grip, and tug it free from the magnet in <2 seconds. Very nice. And now, no chance anything will be blocking the safe door - and I get to use 100% of my nightstand!---------Ever since seeing "The GunBox" videos, I thought RFID was the way to go. It makes sense, especially if the RFID chip is permanently in the possession of the gun owner (i.e. wristband or ring). The cost (>$300) was a bit extreme, but I contemplated it based on the novel idea, and the seemingly ultimate level of childproofing. By chance I came across this safe, and for the price difference, I couldn't help but be intrigued.Biometric scanners seemed gimmicky. Every phone, laptop, or other device with scanners (i.e. lockers at theme parks) all seemed too inaccurate, or took too long to verify and unlock. After watching the Sentry video, I thought it can't be THAT good. I ordered it, and have had a couple days to play with it.I cannot believe how accurate and FAST the scanner is. I've TRIED to stump it by putting my registered finger at various angles, wet, cold, it mattered not. This thing has been 100% accurate, every time. Unregistered fingers, no way. And it opens in under second. It is every bit as good as the video would lead you to believe it is.On an aside, the manual explicitly says not to lock the two keys in the safe, since they are the only way to open it should the electronics fail. Well, I didn't heed the warning. I locked them in the safe as I prove to my wife how well the scanner works. As I swiped, the green light blinked (indicating authorized access), then blinked red, and NO POWER. The thing just went dark. Nothing I did would wake it up. I called Sentry, and their agent explained that with sub-standard batteries (I was using Rayovac) of questionable age, they may deplete so quickly, the low battery warning may not activate. Further, without the key, the only option was to get a notarized form (found on their website) emailed to them, and pay $15 to have new keys sent out. Forget that.I asked about specific weaknesses the safe might have to be able to defeat the lock without causing permanent damage. Of course, they would neither confirm nor deny that such a weakness exists. That ended the call, and I started poking around. While I don't want to reveal what I determined, I can say that it is not only possible, but actually quite simple to access the latch mechanism and manually cause it to release - without ANY damage to the safe. Should anyone need detailed instructions on how to accomplish this, reach out to me by commenting on this review and I'll share my knowledge with you.For the record, I am departing for a month-long trip in an RV in two days. Having a 3yo and a 15mo child with us, this safe was an absolute necessity if we were going to travel armed. Thus, waiting for a replacement key (which takes 3-5 days after submitting the notarized forms) simple wasn't an option. As for the batteries dying so quickly, I don't know if I buy that. After getting into the safe, I was able to resume using it (albeit with the keys in my hand) on the same set of batteries. In fact, I've unlocked it at least a couple dozen more times getting my wife's fingers scanned and testing. I will end up using a 6V wall wart, and running that to the 9V battery clip to power this thing with AC. That will eliminate the possibility of dead batteries and hopefully increase reliability.I've got two more of these on order... One for each night stand, and one for the RV.

Very good gun 'Lock box' with very quick access
OK, for starts I hate that things like this are called 'safes'. Anything that you can pick up and carry away without a hand dolly to me is a 'lock box'. With that out of the way, this is a very nice one for the price. It is well constructed and seems well built with a nice heft to it. It also is sized to be easy to conceal so it wont walk off. It also has two holes in the back that can be used to anchor it, but most standard burglar tools would defeat that also allowing it to be taken whole (Again this is a box). The space inside is good and has padding that very well done for a single pistol +. I have a compact 45, spare mag and box of 20 rounds in mine with no issue. Now lets talk about what why I got this, I needed a nightstand gun ( I grew up with Mom and Dad having a loaded 22 and 38 between the mattress and box spring). So far this box just works, I can have it open in well under 10 seconds reliably using the finger print and also with the buttons. I open it three times a week up until now just to make sure and have had zero issues. We do need to talk about the finger print reader because that is the only reason to spend the extra money. This is a not so good spot for this product, but its price helps. The problem is not so much the hardware as it is the software. This is a swipe type of reader not a 3d one. You have to move your print over the reader for it to read. And it will allow for four prints to be used. That is great but they are programmed in blocks of two and you have to delete them all to add a new one. This took a few tries, a few rereads of manual and some playing to get it right. After is was right please see above. One last thing, I decided to mount mine to the wall next to bed, and at first I mounted with the logo normal. What I found was that this put the door kind of in my way and could let things fall out. So I rotated it 180 and now the door acts as a shelf for when I am in the box. It I would hope will also help if there is any gas shock issues later (this has been noted as a failure point for this box). The other thing is that I have seen on Youtube a video about how to defeat this box. I did try it and it didn't work for me, but I also added a strip of door foam to the inside to stop it if it someone much better than me did try.Would I buy this again? Yes.Would I check out other products before I buy this again? YesVery good for the price point.

Lid does NOT 'spring' open!
Safe is great but the lid must be manually lifted to open once the lock has been released! Not cool, especially for the money! Put a slightly more powerful spring into the hydraulic arm so that it actually opens the lid when the lock is released... otherwise what's the point!!I will not buy again!

Opens with finger print every time with out fail.
This safe is great. Work ever time I swipe the finger print reader with any of the 4 registered fingers. Even if I just washed my hand and my fingers are a bit damp. Unlike my phone its finger print reader has issue when my hand are damp after washing. It holds my H&K 45 ACP with under rail light and 2 magazines with out touching each other. When bolting it down make sure you don't over tighten the bolts or put washers under the safe . Meaning between the safe and the mounting surface not to warp the safe or else the door dosen't open with out help because it will bind. Happend to me when I installed it. But when a backed the bolts off any it was still firmly bolt it open by it self again. The instructions or clear on programming it and easy to under stand. You can hear it open. So if your looking for stealth this is not the safe. But unlike the Vaulteck and gunbox witch yes are very aesthetically pleasing and hsveca more stealthy opening sound from the factory. They both have Bluetooth built into them. Which I've seen hacked open through the Bluetooth within 2 seconds. The finger print reader dosen't work when you have moist or clamy fingers. As well as their program buttons if you know where they are you can drill into the Vault and reset or just pry up the front of the lid bending it a few inches and reset the Vault to the factory pin code unlike this one it is hidden it behind the batteries so when the safe is full it be impossible to drill through it take all the batteries out and get to the reset button this is why I have chosen this safe. Number on reason is the finger print reader works for me ever single time with out fail.

Quality safe to keep the kids out.
This is a great biometric safe. Please be aware that this is not a heavy duty unit. Give me a sledgehammer and I'll open up the unit within 10 minutes easily.I'd say this is more of a keep my kids out safe more than keep the burglars out safe.Usage wise, the safe is fairly easy to operate. The setup requires the manual as it does involve a series of button presses and some programming. The finger scanning is flawless. I've tested it over a hundred times and if the correct finger is used, it will open. Period. The manual states that two fingers can be programmed; however, I am having issues programming the second finger. Normally I would ding half a star or a whole star but I'm willing to give it more time as this is a quality product. The buttons seem very well made. As the fingerprint scanner will be the primary point of contact, the buttons probably will never be used again. One weakness that I can foresee is the gas piston that opens the unit may fail in the future. Hopefully it'll be far in the future.
