The Great American Chocolate Chip Cookie Book: Scrumptious Recipes & Fabled History From Toll House to Cookie Cake Pie

Chocolate chips everywhere and lots to eat
There is more history and articles about regional differences in recipes than recipes. There are a few recipes, including the original recipe, among these articles. Then - you get to the recipes, and possibly the only thing that hasn't been added to a chocolate chip recipe is the kitchen sink. I wouldn't be surprised ifthere is a recipe out there inluding the proverbial kitchen sink (or a facsimile).Interesting book.

Not happy with this book. It was not what I expected. I wanted a recipe book not a book to read about chocolate chip cookies.
I thought it was going to be a recipe book, but most of it was a story of Chocolate Chip Cookies. I would not have purchased it if I had known this before hand. Not happy with it at all. Felt it was a waste of money.

Perfect for any chocolate chip cookie fan!
I love chocolate chip cookies and own a number of other books that focus on them, but this is by far the best. It is the only one I know of that contains real background about how the choc chip cookie came into existence. And there is a chapter naming bakeries around the country that are locally famous for their chocolate chips. Yum! It's not only a cookbook -- there are tons of recipes sprinkled throughout, but there is lots to read too, about Famous Amos, Long Island's Tate's etc. The recipes include many chocolate-chip-cookie flavored pies and cakes as well as different spins on a classic Toll House cookie. This book is the next-best thing to eating a chocolate chip right out of your oven!

Good read, love the recipes
My mother baked Toll House chocolate chip cookies, and now chocolate chip is the only cookie I bake. From that perspective, this book is a joy. Sorry for the reviewer who wanted more of a recipe book. Although this book does have recipes, including actual recipes from people like Ruth Wakefield and Famous Amos, among many other (some surprising) variations on the basic recipe. The criteria here is that all recipes must have the Toll House taste, which means that most of them include brown sugar, butter and chocolate. Very interesting for home bakers. There’s also lots of history and background on how these cookies became a big business, and it’s well-researched and nicely presented. Overall, a very good read.

a sweet purchase
You may think you rather eat chocolate chip cookies than read about how they were invented and marketed but if you have read any of this author's books before, you know she has an eye for fun and interesting information -- like how Mrs. Fields used to make her employees sing from a songbook of cookie parodies like Chippidy Do Dah, and why politicians love chocolate chip cookie as much as the rest of is (it's proof of their "common touch"). Just make sure you have some cookies (or ingredients to make them) in the house before you start reading because it makes you want some!

Great book, great history, and great recipes for America's most beloved cookie!
For all chocolate chip cookie lovers, this is YOUR book! Wyman quirkily captures the history and glory of this most important cookie! The photos, ads, and extras make it a very fun book and the recipes make it a must-have. The downsides are salivating on the book and putting on a few pounds from trying out the recipes! :)
