Excellent and Challenging Multi-disciplinary approach to understanding the role and importance of followers
The book provides a diverse set of perspectives on the importance of followers in an organization. Each article waswell written and the collection reveals many of the paradoxes of the leadership/followership debate. I would not recommend it to a reader without a background in leadership studies, a little psychology, and even a little philosophy. For those who enjoy a stimulating, provocative, and multi-disciplinary approach to an issue, I would highly recommend this book.

Great for all leaders
I read this book for my MBA program. It's a great read for anyone in organizational leadership positions. It does a great job of reminding leaders of the importance of followers, as well as giving good examples of how to better utilize the knowledge and skills of those followers in your organization.

Great Background on Followership, Applicable to More Recent Work
I very much value the book, especially chapters 1 (the overview), 2 (reciprocal following), 4 (leadership-followership paradigm), 9 (servant leadership), 15 (who do people want to follow), 19 (social identity), and 20 (involving employees in visioning).I see a strong connection to more recent writing on organization change techniques based on psychological studies of influence, such as chapter 11 in Going Global: Practical Applications and Recommendations for HR and OD Professionals in the Global Workplace (J-B SIOP Professional Practice Series) and Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard. The book was published in 2008, and while not that "old" I wish there were a connection to social media. Consider how social media is about gathering "followers" and increasingly leveraging that "leadership" to bring about positive change in society (Middle East uprisings, Change.org, Occupy Movement, etc.).This book provides excellent background to leadership, change, and social network research.

Dry and Boring
I didn't even get through the whole thing. That's how boring it was for me. As I read it felt too forced and more like a text book.
