This is a great compromise lantern. Small enough to be personal, bright enough to light a table for four
Firstly I bought this out of my own money, so if you find the review useful, please click the Was this review helpful to you? Yes button below.I've like many others had a load of different camping lanterns. Some too small to stand up on their own, others too heavy to hang from a tent loop. This is a great compromise lantern. Small enough to be personal, bright enough to light a table for four for dinner or board games. Converts into a very useful torch, would recommend.Added bonus the little legs come out the bottom to make it more stable on rough ground, or you can attach to one of the pound shop little tripods for really rough ground.

Vous serez illuminé !
Très bon produit, à la fois robuste et performant. Utilisant les piles AA, il est certain d'en trouver facilement en cas de panne. Il remplit deux fonctions à la perfection: lampe de poche et lanterne, c'est magique !

Great for emergency use. Everyday flash light needs...not so much
I was initially going to order the smaller brother (the UCO Clarus) until i seem this one which lasts more than 2 times the amount the smaller one does. But seeing the Clarus first, I assumed the power button was also on the bottom for this light. That is not the case, and I gotta say, where they decided to place the button is annoying. Most of the time when I use this light, I want to use it in flashlight mode. But either way, I have to extend the top part in order to get to the power button. This was a very annoying design choice and my biggest gripe with this light. Also, the light seems to be very focused and overpowering. Yes…it lights the room up well, but I have to put it in a spot where it is not remotely anywhere in my line of vision or else it is overpowering and painful. Even in flashlight mode I get this effect. I was checking a pipe down my basement to see if it was trickle leaking, but the light is so bright that it makes it very hard to see what you’re aiming it on. Think of a picture that is over exposed and that’s the effect you get with this light. It does have a dimmer feature which is nice. But even that I am disappointed in. I sometimes prefer a light for late night bathroom trips instead of turning the bright home overhead lights on. It would have been nice if they included the feature that it ‘resumes’ to the last brightness you had the light set too. The power button automatically brings it back up to 100% no matter what you had it set to when you turned it off. This means for late night bathroom trips, you are going to be blinded before you hold the button down to dim the light.Overall, I would say this is a great emergency light if your power happens to go out considering it has very long battery life and it does lite up an entire room pretty decently. For normal flashlight and everyday use…you might want to look elsewhere.

Nice lantern/ flashlight
I bought this lantern for the increased light out put, I own the smaller version and love it. This light is much larger and actually not as handy as the smaller version. This one has a strange location for the on off switch, the smaller version has a push button on the bottom that is always accessible. This version requires the lamp to be opened to turn on. So two handed operation is required if you are going to used it as a flashlight ... This is not too big of a deal but by opening the lantern to turn it on you get blasted with bright light as soon as you turn on the light because it's in lantern mode and at the brightest setting. Locating the button on the side under the plastic lens when collapsed ruins some of the functionality over the smaller version. Also don't get the cool but strange concept of the split hang ring, hanging off of a backpack strap is eliminated because it eventually falls off when the two sides open up. the smaller one hangs perfect off of my backpack strap and works well during night hikes. I will use this lantern for emergencies like power outages around the house and by another of the smaller and cheaper version for my backpack partner.

Great Flashlight / Lantern Combo, Great Price!
I use this often because our power goes out a lot in this area due to weather (or during the summer because the city likes to do regular, unexpected "brown-outs" to shut people's ACs off....thanks, ATX!), and I use this as my go-to lantern for camping, and as a general flash-light for any reason (in lantern mode, it is supremely effective for plugging in cords in tight places like under computer desks or behind entertainment centers).

Provides variable or dim light
Provides variable or dim light for Tent and Dinning Awning for me. Nice to be able to really dim it for night as bedtime approaches in a tent. This replaced 2 lights of same brand which had been ruined when I left them for months in packed away gear. I now take the batteries out and put them with the light in a zip lock bag and store them safely.

Great, flexible lantern.
Great lantern. Super bright. Good size as it is easy to hold in your hand. The ability to convert to a usable flashlight makes this a winner. The hooks and tripod mount are great pluses, as well. A lot of details went into the flexibility of this light. Batteries last a good amount of time before needing replacing. I use this lantern a lot, the only potential downside I see is, after a lot of use, the sliding guides that convert the light between lantern and flashlight may become worn making the lantern collapse into flashlight mode under its own weight. It has not happened yet after several months of use, but possibly could.

Equivalent to Coleman's 4D lantern in brightness!
Great product, love the functional easy to figure out in the middle of the night dimmer, it makes the mood or lights up my whole 8 man tent. We used this 4 days for all of us camping and came home with what still appears to be full charge on batteries! Incredibly compact and lightweight, it is a great lantern and a decent flashlight when collapsed. The lantern lighting was preferable over 2 Coleman lanterns I have, a 4D (UCO more evenly spreads light) and an 8D 24 LED family lantern due to it's power consumption. Now I have to unload my old heavyweight lanterns on CL or something! But this over competitors, I researched and have field verified that this hands down beats the other big 3 by far. Highly recommend

This is a great lantern. Plenty bright and useful as a lantern ...
This is a great lantern. Plenty bright and useful as a lantern or flashlight with adjustable power. Mine did fail after not being used for a while. I took it out and the batteries were drained absolutely dead. I contacted UCO with an email and they responded in a matter of just a few minutes and are sending a replacement and they apologized for the problem. Great customer service! Buy this lantern. You will love it and if you do have a problem the company will make it right quickly. I am going to buy a few for gifts.

Mediocre when it works, and it hardly works.
The flashlight mode works fine, but the lantern mode is not very good. Tried to illuminate a large, 9-person tent but the way the lantern disperses light is flawed. The light does not travel very far, and there is a giant blind spot. Better to invest in a dedicated lantern and flashlight. What irks me the most was the battery holding compartment. The batteries need to be in a very precise orientation to be touching the nodes, and the batteries fall out of place very easily. This is not a rugged flashlight-lantern at all, which is pointless for most situations.

Bright lantern, but inconveniently placed switch
Good bright lantern, really lights up a room, even at just 180 lumens. My only quibble is you have to slide the cover all the way up to get at the switch. The other minor annoyance is the batteries were tricky to get in right. Otherwise though, a good combo flashlight/lantern at a good price. Would buy again.

Amazing Compact Lantern and Flashlight
Wow! This is one great light. I purchased this and the Rayovac Sportsman LED Lantern (SE3DLN) to have better emergency lighting available for my home. In lantern mode, this UCO Lumora XP is almost as bright as the Rayvoc (maybe 10% dimmer to my eyes). It is also an amazingly bright flashlight which can easily light up objects over 50 feet away. Light can also be dimmed by holding the power button. It is compact and easily stored. Light is 1-1/2 in. wide at the base/handle and 2-1/2 in. wide at the top. In flashlight mode it is 5-3/8 in tall. In lantern mode, it is 7-1/2 in tall. There is a metal split ring at the top to allow lantern to be hung from a narrow pole or a loop or lanyard. There is about ½ in. clearance for the split ring to be secured which should be good for most needs. There is also a tripod mount on the bottom. I am not sure how often I would have a need to mount a lantern to a tripod so I was thinking that it might be useful with an adapter (like EzFoto Stainless Steel Screw ) to allow light to be easily connected to a lanyard or small carabineer. There are three plastic feet that can be extended from the bottom to improve stability which is nice but I wonder how durable they will be. While the flashlight is amazing, the power button is covered when in flashlight mode so the diffuser sleeve must be slid to the lantern mode to turn on, turn off or adjust brightness then slid back into place to operate as a flashlight. Flashlight beam is a wide pattern with a bright center which is not adjustable. There are some compromises made to have a compact light which is both a great lantern and a great flashlight but overall this is a terrific product. Size and functionality are handy, build quality questionable
Purchased two lanterns from a vendor, and another two from a shop. Of the four total lanterns, two had bad switches. . . While the unit is a handy size and is pretty bright, the build quality seems middling at best. . . Had one that wouldn't turn off, and had another that was not only difficult to press, but also had the annoying habit of going from low to high brightness on its own. . . I would generally not recommend this model of lantern. . .

Great Product
I will admit that the first UCO that i received was defective. On/off/dim button only turn the lantern on and off, no dimming effect at all. On top of that it drained the batteries while not in use.Moving on to the better part of the review... I received the replacement promptly and this one works as advertised. I was taken back by the brightness of the light. The dimming feature is also very useful. After tinkering around with the light I am so far very pleased with it. It is compact enough to throw into my bag without adding that much weight or taking up that much room. I have yet to take it on a trip but I am planning one very soon and will update my review afterward.
