It works pretty well for me on my back patio it’s attracted all the fly’s just as the description says but like the comments say it does definitely smell horrible to the point were its uncomfortable to sit around it or keep it close to my apartment door it’s gotta be kept at a distance. It’ll also fill up with maggots/larvae

I purchased a similar product from a local department store and ordered these Black Flag fly traps from Amazon. I wanted to see which one would be the best one to keep these flies away from our house and stop them from hovering all around our chickens and ducks. We’ve had so much rain that we’ve been overrun with flies for the first time since we bought our little mini farm. Love the rain for the garden, don’t get me wrong. But the flies! Yuck! Both of the fly traps really work! The one from the store you have to cut the plastic in order to fill the product with water and mix in the powder that attracts the flies. This one, you don’t cut. You simply pull up and open the top enough to add the water and mix in the powder. Much better. The next big difference is in the odor. Because the other product must be cut in order to add the water and mix the powder, there is a definite area for odor to escape. I could smell that horrible distinctive odor from about 100 feet away. My husband kept thinking it was the new chickens that we added to the flock until I told him to go smell that bag hanging in the coop. I remember my dad hanging these bags when I was a little girl, and it is an odor that you just don’t forget. These Black Flag, on the other hand, do not smell offensive unless you put your nose up close and/or squeeze them to check and see how many flies are in the solution! So if you don’t want to smell it, above all, don’t squeeze the bag. In fact, just don’t touch it once it’s hung until you’re ready to dispose of it. lol The last thing that is different than the one from the store (which was over $2 more per fly trap than these, by the way) is that the one from the store does not come with a tie to hang up the bag like these do. The only thing you need to start using this fly trap is the water! It’s been a wonderful, not having flies follow us into the house. It’s been amazing not having them all over the chicken coop. I would definitely recommend this product and have purchased more.

I got tired of having flies come into my house and garage when I open the door to come in. Also, I'm tired of seeing and having to wash the fly crap off of all of my siding, window frames and everything else these nasty pest land on and leave their droppings. I purchased a couple of these traps to see if they would work. The trap is easy to activate and install. Just unscrew the top plug...it doesn't come out so don't force it out. Add water and fill to the line on the side of the bag. Unwrap the white wire tie from the top cap and attach one end to the top cap and the other end to wherever you are going to hang it on. To draw flies away, I placed mine away from the house and garage but close enough to the entrance doors to be effective at drawing them away from the doors. The first day they were put out they didn't do to much and I couldn't smell anything at the time. The second day started attracting the flies and there was a slight smell by there was some wind. On the third day the trap had about an inch thick of flies in the trap and a little more of a smell but the wind was light. I think that some of the smell maybe the dead flies decomposing...again, maybe. By the fifth day there was more of a stench but the wind was calm and not blowing like the previous days. Also there were maggots in the bag. The wife says she can smell the traps and to her they stink, but they're not that bad to me. Of course, I did not put them inside any structures and only outside away from the house but close enough to attract the flies away from the entrance doors. I have noticed a definite reduction of flies near the house and none near the entrance doors but of course a lot of flies at the traps. Even though these do smell some in my opinion, but they work very well I will buy more and use them...but that's just me.

Works fairly well at trapping the flies! But they’re not kidding when they say it SMELLS AWFUL!! it’s not immediate either, it just gets progressively more putrid as the days go on. To the point where I almost threw up walking into the room..

I will NEVER mess with buying something like this again. This has the most awful stench that I have ever smelt, and I could not get it far enough away from my house. Wow. Unbelievably horrible smell! Inititally, I set up 2 of these traps, one in the garage near a window, and one near my cat's litter boxes on the patio. Neither of these traps have one fly in them, but yet there are flies flying around. I checked the trap in the garage, (the garage door is open) and still not one fly in the trap, but I instead noticed a new pest, a bug crawling up the wall to get near the trap. Apparently, the trap ATTRACTS BUGS, and so I better take it down before I have a gang of new bugs I've never seen before, because the stuff inside their plastic trap is meant to attract them! I have enough trouble as it is, I don't need more. They are laying in the dirt next to my trash can near the street waiting for tomorrow's trash pick-up. I won't place them in the trash can until tomorrow morning, because I'm afraid I will never get that horrid smell out of my trash can!! Ewe. Initial Review: "The directions on the package say to, "turn the plastic cap counterclockwise and pull up to open". What they fail to mention is, pull to open does not man pull the plastic cap off. It stays on, and the directions should tell users to simply pull it up far enough to where you can pour water inside the bag to the fill line. Someone might try and twist the cap off and break it, thinking they are supposed to remove it. I hate it when directions are not clear. Sometimes they write directions as if the user is already familiar with the item and many people are not. Some people have never used these things. It also says to hang the trap outdoors. I'm wondering why you can't use them indoors? There is, of course, no explanation for this. The flies that annoy us are the ones that get inside the house. So, I stopped yanking on the cap and realized that it's not supposed to come off and hung it up outside. We will see how it works, and I will post an update if it's better or worse than expected."

This is my second order of the Fly Bags. They work very well for attracting flies without the horrible smell that other bags had. I have hung one off the edge of each side of the porch and they fill up with flies within a couple of weeks. The brand I used last year could not be hung near the porch......they smelled like driving by a bay with dead fish.....and had to be hung on the fence farther away from the porch and patio. This one also has a nice print to look like a wicker basket so you do not see the flies as much. I highly recommend.

I've had this up for 4 days, and it is very full of multi-size flies and gnats, so I guess it works. It is also however filling up with maggots! If you get to close to it you will get a whiff of the most disgusting of odors! It's like a dumpster full of dead fish thats been sitting for days, in the sun, in mid-August, in Southeast Louisiana! I know this for a fact because I worked at a seafood restaurant in SE Louisiana multiple summers. It's no wonder there are so many flies in there. I'm a little concerned what's going to happen when I have to take this down! What if it spills on the ground? Or worse on me? I do not think I'll be purchasing again, but if I do I may pour some apple cider vinegar in with the water to see if that stops the maggots! I have several other paper funnel traps with rotting fruit and ACV in my backyard that I placed before this arrived, and they are full of dead flies, and NO maggots! Honestly, I think there were less flies out before I put this thing up so it may actually be attracting flies from miles away. It would make a great science project though!
