Support properly, and perform their duty day after day
I wear only New Balance Extra Wide shoes. The explanation is neither mysterious nor flattering: I carry more weight than I ought to, and my feet insist on reminding me. These provide the width I need along with an arch that actually supports rather than merely decorates the insole. In a marketplace increasingly devoted to fashion masquerading as function, that is no small achievement. I generally buy the 608 V5 cross trainers because they consistently have the best availability in Extra Wide. That alone earns them a place near the top of my shopping list. They also come in enough colors to satisfy whatever mood strikes you. I've accumulated black, white, brown, blue, and now gunmetal. Evidently, when I find something that works, I become a predictable voter. The shoes are comfortable from the first day, supportive during long walks, and forgiving during those moments when the bathroom scale reminds me that arithmetic is undefeated. They have become my everyday footwear, accompanying me through errands, appointments, and the ordinary business of retirement. No product is without its legislative amendments. Occasionally the shoelaces seem unnecessarily thick or comically long, as though drafted by a committee unable to agree when to stop. It's hardly a constitutional crisis, but every so often I find myself wondering whether someone at New Balance has a side business selling extra lace. Because these are my primary shoes—and because I place a bit more stress on them than their designers probably envisioned—they're generally ready for retirement after about six months. I don't regard that as a defect so much as the inevitable consequence of constant use and a user who could stand to lose a few pounds. Institutions endure because they reliably perform their intended function. The same may be said of these shoes. They are not flashy, they make no extravagant promises, and they will not transform your life. They simply fit well, support properly, and perform their duty day after day. In an era of exaggerated marketing claims, there is something refreshingly conservative about a product that succeeds by quietly doing exactly what it was designed to do. Five stars.

Excellent Comfort and Great Support!
I am extremely happy with these New Balance 608 V5 shoes. They are very comfortable right out of the box and provide excellent support for walking and standing all day. The fit is true to size, the quality is outstanding, and they look great with almost any outfit. The cushioning helps reduce foot fatigue, making them perfect for work, daily activities, or casual wear. I would definitely buy them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for comfortable and durable sneakers.

Very Comfortable
They fit true to size. I always made fun of these as dad shoes. Now I get it. Very comfortable and clean looking. I walked around for over 5 hours at the local theme park and my feet didn’t hurt once. Alot of shoe for a good price. Definitely recommend this shoe.

A solid durable feeling shoe.
Pretty good so far. Key point: Don’t order up. Plenty of size in these shoes, and the X wide is working for My Hawaiian feet. I got these for power walking and compared to walking in slippers ( My usual) they’ve really upped My game, enabling me to do a 10 min 34 sec. Split time on a 2 mile walk yesterday. Not bad at nearly 64 yrs old. I also ordered a couple pair of Sketchers. Here’s how they compare. The NB is way more substantial, with a harder, no doubt more durable rubber sole, while the Sketchers have a much more soft, almost a foam sole. NB has much more support and stabilization, but is not quite as comfortable out of the box as the NB. Some of the new balance shoes have an awkward slip on/lacing system. That is very difficult to get snug.. The NB is lighter due to the flimsier foam soles. Don’t skimp on the width. These tend to run narrow even the extra wide isn’t quite wide enough on one of the models I got. Verdict: if you’re simply doing casual walking, perhaps the new balance might fit your needs, but if you’re going to be putting in the miles, like I do at break next speed, you’d probably do better to stick with the new balance.

Second Pair - Just As Good As The First!
I don't use these for cross training. I use them as regular sneakers. They're true to size, comfortable, light weight, well made and I think they look good too. They're suede, so I try not to wear them in the rain or standing water... That's what I have my Merrill's for. Great all-purpose sneakers for a sub-$100 price. That's a win-win in my book.

Great, but not like the 840v1 walker.
Just received a pair this morniing. I have never really felt right about cross trainers. Anyway, I put them on and walked a mile outside. Still unsure, I decided to use the last upper eyelet as a trial, and the light went on. Suddenly the shoes felt a part of me, and I feel usure turning to love. Comfortable, stable. fit great. and now miles to go. Now, New Balance, please make more of the 840v1 walking shoes.

Fantastic shoe at a fantastic price. Nice design choice.
I was very reluctant to try New Balance shoes because my now 82 year old father having worn the standard issue NB white shoes for years I couldn’t picture me in those things. Every man over 70 wears them I thought. I was subject to foot problems because of a defect in my left foot. My podiatrist told me to try a pair. Maybe get in a different color pattern than dad’s shoes. I loved them instantly. I wear a size 15 shoe and comfort and wearability matters. Now that I have owned several pairs of NB shoes I am hooked. My sneaker inventory is down to two pairs that I would have trashed long ago if I only had a replacement. I was prepared to spend up to about $150 for shoes if I wanted. As I was looking through NB shoes first I stumbled across this patriotic looking pair and saw the amazing prize. I ordered them and two days later I have them and they are wonderful as usual. Also just in time for the Fourth of July. So happy I may buy a second pair. And with the money I’ve saved buy a different pair as well. The price is too good.
