Q: Will this stapler handle the shorter 71 series C crown staples? 5/32" length?

71 series will work. AKA #7 Empire. I have used 5/32 to 9/16 with no problems. This is a great staple gun. I have been using it full time in my upholstery shop for about 6 months with out problem.

Q: DOes this have a saftey mechanism?

Sort of, it has a steel toggle that I wouldn't trust that much. The stapler works well so far though, I've only done one chair though.

I have no idea with all the comparisons. All I know is I bought this stapler and it’s wonderful!! I would highly recommend it. Amazing for the price. I’ve done a lot of upholstery with it, I mean a lot!! Never jammed a single time!!
