Product Description Kim Crawford 'Spitfire' SP Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine is rich and full, a concentrated blend of sweet and citrusy fruit flavours kiss the palate with plenty of weight through a long, delightful finish. An exuberant Sauvignon Blanc emanating passionfruit, grapefruit and tropical fruit aromas.Spitfire derives its name from a famous site in Marlborough which was once used as an air force training base during World War II. The grapes for the wine are sourced from the Murphy Family Vineyard in the Rapaura sub-region, with fertile, free-draining alluvial soils and heavier silts that help to produce lush, full canopies. The climate is relatively frost free, with slightly more rainfall than the Southern Valleys. These factors all help to produce a wine that has big aromatics in the tropical fruit spectrum, combined with a rich mouthfeel. The natural acidity is retained due to the diurnal variation that plays such a huge role in Marlborough.Summer 2017 /2018 was delightful, with heat summation marginally above the long term average and lots of beautiful sunny days. Notably however, the mean daily temperatures during mid-summer were below the long-term average, providing an idyllic sunny and dry growing environment, without excessive heat. Marlborough was fortunate to receive intermittent rainfall throughout the growing season, which warded off the severe drought conditions experienced by much of the country. The fruit was machine harvested in early April in the cool of the evening and overnight to preserve flavours. The mature fruit was crushed directly to press and pressed immediately to tank with minimal skin contact. Each vineyard was kept separate during the winemaking process. When all tanks had completed fermentation, they were blended, stabilised and bottled. It comes with the vintage information as follows: Vintage: 2017/2018; Grape varieties: 100% Sauvignon Blanc; Region: Marlborough; Winemaker: Anthony Walkenhorst; Closure: Stelvin; Alcohol (ABV): 12.5%; Acidity: 7.5g/l; Residual Sugar: 4.5g/l; Wine pH: 3.40.

As good as I hoped for.
This wine lived up to my expectations of a high end Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, with the classic grassy/ citrus/gooseberry notes I expect. But it also hinted at more opulent tropical fruits, nectarines and peaches. With a lovely long finish, this is a delicious wine to enjoy on a warm sunny summer evening! Also it arrived well protected from any possibilities of breakage.

This was the best white wine I have ever tasted a couple of years ago, so at the though of experiencing that again I purchased 3 bottles. What a mistake. If anyone knows anything about this wine and wants to order it, do not order it from these people. Not only does it not taste any bring like I remember, I could swear blind it isn't a Sauvignon Blanc. The first time I tasted it I was hit in the face with strong fruity flavours, which seem to have disappeared, it's not even nice on the nose. Dreadful "copy" of a wine because I cannot accept this is the same that I tasted a couple of years ago.

Intense and delicious
Bought in a sale as a try-out, we were bowled over by the intense bouquet and strong, consistent flavour. For the price, this is one of the better whites we've had.

Great wine for the price
We love Kim Crawford, discovered on a trip to USA and were delighted when we found out we could buy on Amazon. If you like Cloudy Bay then give this a try.
