King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (DVD)

This is definitely one of my favorite movies that I've seen in quite awhile! It brings in many of the themes, characters, and popular parts of the 'King Arthur legend/myth/story,' but it does so in a completely new way. You don't have to argue, (be it with others or yourself, lol!), about how historically accurate the movie is: it is so obviously mostly fantasy/fiction, with enough of the popularized items of the story to make it interesting and related to the 'King Arthur mythos'. You are able to just sit back and enjoy the fast-paced wordplay, sword fighting action, and even a bit of Kung-Fu added in for good measure...! This movie, despite being having almost a video-game feel during some of fighting and action sequences, even manages to incorporate some of the most important themes from the 'King Arthur legend'. Arthur finds himself, both as a man and as a king, (beginning, of course, with his pulling the sword from the stone). By the end, Arthur decides to make all of his closest knights/advisors/companions equal to each other-and thus, by coming up with the round table for them to all sit at, none higher than anyone else, Arthur creates a strong and constant reminder/symbol that all those who have earned a place at that table are considered to be equals, (i.e. one's status, finances, family tree, age, etc., mean nothing, once one has earned the right to sit at Arthur's Round Table of his closest Knights and Companions). Arthur stands up against evil, corruption, those that hurt/enslave people weaker, smaller, or poorer than themselves. This movie shows this using various symbols and personifications of evil that allow for scenes showing Arthur facing his own fears/pain from his past, so that he can fight, (and obviously prevail), against evil personified. There are many, many examples in the movie where Arthur helps and fights for the common people, people that are too weak, too poor, too scared to stand up and fight for themselves. This is, of course, one of the most popularized and important traits that Arthur is thought to have, in almost all of his stories, legends, and myths--his willingness to help those that can't help themselves. He is almost always shown to have a soft spot for the common people, the peasants, the outcasts, the small and the weak...and this movie demonstrates this side of Arthur again and again.. Besides all of the above, (semi-ranting, lol!), the acting was great overall. The actors were chosen well for their characters/roles. The special effects were cool-done in a couple of different and interesting ways, some of the scenes looked kind of like video games/LARP-type things, some of the scenes used special effects similar to the way that the movie "300" did them, and some of the special effects were more subtle. It was interesting how they incorporated so many different types and ways of doing the special effects in the movie. I also really like how fast-paced everything was. Some of the action scenes were fast-paced and violent, as expected. But they also made a lot of the word play, discussions, and arguments very fast-paced and the back-and-forth was incredible. I don't know if I've ever seen it done quite that way in a movie before, with such quick and intelligent word play back-and-forth, (sometimes they did this quick word play, along with playing the pictures/scenes from what they're describing/explaining right at that moment). I just thought that was very cool, and I wouldn't think that many actors would have been able to keep up with all of the intense, quick, back-and-forth wordplay that was used throughout the film. So, to the actors in this movie that were part of that: "Well done! Very cool." Anyway, I didn't mean to write an essay, here, but I do like this newest movie of King Arthur, quite a bit. It is so different from the typical movie/TV show/book portrayal of the Legend of King Arthur; it is so obviously fantasy/fiction, that it is easy to just sit back, eat some popcorn, and enjoy the movie as it is--no need for picking it apart for its historical accuracy/inaccuracies! And I don't know about everybody else, but as someone with a History degree and a love for the whole King Arthur story/legend/myth/lore, it is so incredibly nice to be able to 'turn my critical mind off,' and just enjoy a King Arthur movie!

Although Excalibur will always be my favorite Arthurian movie, I really liked this one alot. Jude Law played a convincing bad guy, and Hunnan is a powerhouse of an actor. The music grabbed me first, and that's always a good sign for me. The banter between the characters cracked me up more than once and finally a version without a love plot thrown in. Just good Ole bad good vs. bad and some creepy characters to keep you watching.

I love this CD! It includes the full- length versions of all the songs in the movie (which was great, btw). I especially love the strong base and powerful, penetrating rhythms that many of these tunes have. The intense beats provide just the cognitive alignment my ADHD needs!

Great product great movie

Fun, and visually impressive. I didn't mind the twist on the tale, and worth a watch. However, I wish the director could tell a better story, the elements were there, the execution missed. If you like to get lost in a movie and just enjoy it for what it is, this is a fun movie. If you like characters, suspense and plot... eh. The actors are likeable; the story is very predictable in that there were zero moments where you thought, 'I didn't see that coming.' Very little to help you feel the conflict, it was just sort of taken for granted there is conflict. Even the hero's path was too predictable. If you don't mind just watching it happen, it works. If you want to have that moment where you understand the hero's dilemma and could realistically see him go either way (even though you know one path means there wouldn't be a movie), it misses. So why four stars then? I like movies, I like getting lost in the fun of it, and I like the whole King Author unintentional hero, turns out to be a great leader aspect. Still hope to see one of those in my life time. So, four, maybe three point five, but it rounds up.

Very good movie

Charlie Hunnam does a fantastic job portraying King Arthur as he and his band of companions fight their way from simple street hustlers to Excalibur and the crown. Guy Ritchie's directing is top notch and the music score fits the action movie theme perfectly. Tis is so good I've watched it several times and I'm always happy to have spent two hours of my life being entertained.

Not sure why this didn't do well back in 2017, i thought it was really good, the cast & storyline.

Warum auch immer meine Bewertung nach über 2 Jahren gelöscht wurde... Hatte wohl jemand ein kleines Mimimi :) Es geht hier um die 4k Version. Ich muß leider erstmal etwas zu anderen (negativen) Bewertungen schreiben... Meine Güte, Chantal... "Wo war denn die Artus Sage, wo war denn die Story..." "...dazu auch noch die fürchterliche Musik..." Ernsthaft, Chantal... Die Story weist durchaus einige Bezüge zur Artus Sage auf. Bewusst dosiert und passend eingebaut. Wer auf diesen ganzen verklärten und verschnulzten Kram steht, der die Spätantike oder das Mittelalter als rosige, gemütliche Zeit darstellt... Bitte, viel Freude daran :) Aber wenn dann mal ein Film kommt, der diese Zeit dunkel darstellt, dreckig, schmutzig, hart und kalt, dann wird rumgeweint ? ENDLICH mal eine Arthus Verfilmung die sich NICHT zwanghaft an alles bereits tausendfach erzählte und verfilmte klammert. ENDLICH mal NICHT eine verschnulzte Variante. Was habe ich beim ersten Bond mit Daniel Craig abgefeiert, als dort endlich mal mit diversen Traditionen gebrochen wurde ! Und so sehe ich das auch hier... ENDLICH MAL WAS NEUES ! Und der Film erzählt durchaus trotzdem eine Artus Geschichte. Aber eben mal auf eine völlig andere Art und Weise, nämlich auf SEINE Art und Weise. Der Film ist bewusst dunkel gehalten in seiner Stimmung, seiner Farbgebung. Die sehr eigenwillige Art der Musik passt einfach perfekt dazu ! Der Soundtrack ist wirklich super. Die Kameraführung ist manchmal sehr schnelllebig, erscheint fast schon wirr, passt aber eben auch sehr gut zu den Situationen. Die Special Effects sind super. Es ist halt kein Armageddon Film oder Matrix ! Aber was hier in den Film eingebaut wurde, ist mit passendem Equipment definitiv sehenswert. Das endlich auch mal eine deutsche Atmos Spur vorliegt hat mich sehr erfreut. Und diese ist sehr gut verarbeitet. Klare Gespräche die nicht im Geräusch eines Kampfes untergehen, wie es bei vielen anderen Filmen der Fall ist. In der Summe und als Kurzfassung: Super Bild und Ton inkl. Special Effects Klasse Story Absolute Empfehlung für diejenigen, die auch gerne mal was anderes als verklärte Mittelalter-Romatik sehen wollen.

An excellent take on the story of King Arthur. I love that it ignores the love triangle and instead focused on the greatness of Arthur. Guy Ritchie makes amazing movies. Brilliant cinematography. A fast paced, fun, action packed, and cheeky story. I wish there was a sequel to this. One movie isn’t enough.

First off historical, come on King Arthur Legend of the Sword!!! Dynamite!!! 2 very hunky acclaimed actors good and evil fighting for their right to the throne. Love it love it love it. Had to order it. This is a fav.
