The Expressive Arts Activity Book: A Resource for Professionals

not intermodal, but handy
This is not intermodal expressive arts, but really expressive visual art in a care setting. It is very well organized, especially the index that organizes by activity type, patient type, etc. I can't say that I've used any of the activities from the book, but I find myself turning to it because it is clear and easy to understand, and gives me ideas for starting points. I know this is a strange review, but I do think this book would be very helpful for those who have no training in art or creative therapies. I am an art educator and certified expressive arts practitioner, so it doesn't have the same intellectual *umph* that other books on expressive arts have.

Super well-organized format, easy to use and appropriate activities for the population
This book is amazing. I work with Alzheimer's and dementia patients, both individually and in groups. The exercises in this book are both appropriate and useful. It's extremely well organized. Ex: You can pick activities for ice breakers, and/or meant specifically for working one on one, or for a small group. It's easily to modify them based on your needs. it's clear that the authors of the book know the population and what works. It's important to be able to have activities that help the clinician and patient connect and help the patients in a group connect to each others. This book is all you need to meet those goals.

So So
This book is geared more towards drawing/fine arts practices. Good but not exactly what I was after. Looking for more body based expressive work. It is totally fine for what it is. Not disappointed.

Great Resource
The book is very helpful for those who are involved in the human services professions. It highlights how to prepare expressive arts activities for various groups and settings. The book starts by preparing the reader to put together personal art supplies to offer clients for activities then the book segways into how to implement various activities with groups and individuals. It is a great resource for those who are interested in running activities with various people in a variety of settings.

Expressive Arts book
I was able to use many of the ideas out of this (or modify them as needed) for creative arts groups where I work. They are explained in detail and provide a list of supplies you will need. I keep it on my desk at work and find it to be a great resource.

Lots of wonderful ideas
This is a terrific resource for any practitioner who wants to incorporate art therapy into her practice. The exercises are well organized with a legend indicating whether they're suitable for groups, individuals or both. Most of these are described in terms of using them in a hospital setting, but most are appropriate for other settings as well.

Care Givers resource.
Covers how to prepare in a hospital setting for any caregiver: family, nurse and/or professional, but good information for many situations.

Excellent book!
This is pure Gold when it comes to buying an art therapy book. It gives you a good intro into how the author became a therapist and what art therapy is all about. the rest of the book is full of really good activities, some more simple than others but that makes it well balanced. I am sure (depending on your clients needs) you and they dont always want to create something challenging or takes a long period of time, so some activities are very simple.I am not an Arts Therapist yet, I am in training to be a recreational support worker of which I will go on to do my masters later in my future that qualifies me as an art therapist. However I am already researching and reading books and I do utilize some of the activities in my own art, post on my blog and encourage others to try them out as "Art as a therapeutic aid to soothe the soul."really good value for money, worth treating yourself if you have an interest in art therapy.

Not what I thought
This book was not what I expected, not as useful as I had hoped and so I returned it to Amazon immediately - however even though I returned it on the same day that it was delivered to me, I was not able to get a refund, I could only exchange it for something else. The refund difficulty is obviously not the fault of the book but overall a disappointing experience.

Creative arts activities
Having recently started running a creative arts group, I have found this book a wonderful resource with lots of exercises and clear explanations. It feels like an endless source of help and I don't let it too far out of my sight! It is written to cover lots of different types of groups and individuals, however much can be adapted. I am so pleased I found it.
