will this work for my daughters to practice turns on at home? Is it light enough to also bring to competitions for warming up on carpeted areas?

My daughters are getting it for Christmas tomorrow. I am hoping that they can practice turns. I don't think it will be portable -- there are other options for that.

Would this work a hard, cleanable surface for an art area in a kids playroom? Would it protect the carpet and be easier to clean that carpet?

This product does best on a hard, flat surface. And keep in mind that the seams are not water tight.
