REALLY expensive tomatoes!
My original review was one star and I said that I was very disappointed in a product made for a 6 pod AeroGarden, costing $15 that consisted of only 3 plants and 3 blanks! Now, after having invested $15 and a lot of time and energy, I'd give less than 1 star if I could!!! I followed the directions religiously only to have the three plants produce exactly 2 small cherry tomatoes before shriveling up and dying! At $7.50 each, these little tomatoes were a very real disappointment. And, yes, I gently brushed the tomato plants to pollinate them. All three got a couple of flowers, but only the 2 red cherry tomatoes actually produced. One tomato each. The AeroGarden was a gift and I was so excited to receive it and now all I feel is guilt that someone I love wasted all that money on an inferior product. I had the same dismal experience when I tried to grow the herbs that came with the original product - everything started out great, but one by one, each and every herb plant shriveled and died. I thought maybe it was me, so I cleaned the container till it was spotless, again following the directions, before "planting" the tomatoes. Same old, same old. Great start, lousy finish. So far the investment is over $125 and I've grown half a cup of basil and 2 small cherry tomatoes. Needless to say, I won't be planting anything else. I bought two violets and since I don't have any sunny place to put them indoors, I now have them sitting on the empty AeroGarden, under the lights. I figure I'll use the lights till they burn out and then just throw the unit away.

Not really getting what you paid for
First - I love my Aerogarden. I had wanted one for ages, so when I found a 3-pod clearance one in a local store I was happy. I grew the flowers and they bloomed their little hearts out. I liked the idea of growing herbs and veggies inside, away from the critters that steal food out of the garden.I even bought a second unit - 6 pods - to grow herbs. And to reuse the 3-pod I bought the tomato seed set. Yes, I should have read the details of the description, so it's partly my responsibility, but...It says 6-pod seed kit. So I thought it would have 6 seed pods. Great - 3 for now and 3 for later.Wrong.There are 3 seed pods and 3 spacers. If I had realized that I would have looked more closely at the price and made a different selection. I didn't give 4 stars because I don't think the 3 pods is a good value for the price paid.Ignoring that - the seeds are growing happily in the 3-pod unit. They are only about 2 inches high so far, but they look healthy. Hopefully I will be harvesting cherry tomatoes in my kitchen soon.

Works as advertised but it isn't cheap
I have now done three aerogardens with tomatoes, and every time the seeds did activate as indicated; in fact, all the seeds sprouted, and you have to cut off a couple of plants (you should only have one per pod). The problem is the darn things keep growing and growing; even though I have the Pro 200 which you can lift the lights up pretty high, the plants always reach the lights (sooner or later). The plants do require constant water each day when in full production, and you have to have extra fertilizer pellets or liquid stuff if you want to have the tomato plants last more than a couple of months. Also the bulbs can burn out early (another major expense). If you are doing this because you like homegrown tomatoes in February with no pesticide, and expense is not a problem, go for it. (And yes, my garden is a 7 pod, but that isn't a problem, you just plug up the extra opening with one of the blocks from an older kit you bought.)Also (an afterthought) I like the cherry tomatoes much better than the mega tomato kits; I have found size to be about the same, and I get more tomatoes with the cherry kits.

Only 3 Plants :(
Don't get me wrong I LOVE my AeroGarden, the only thing I was not expecting from the cherry tomato seed pods was they only contain 3 plans and the other three pods are only spacers to allow the other cherry tomato pods to grow? Mine are almost full grown and are filled in quite a bit, but I still think after taking the top off I would have had more than enough room for the other plants.

READ FOR TIPS!
I'm currently using a cherry tomato kit for 3 pod (but the advice here applies for everyone), that only came with 1 seed pod, but it's going great! There's a really important trick that I discovered! They say in the directions that multiple seedlings will germinate, but we should cut off all but 1 sprout. I, however, decided to plant the rest of the seedlings into separate pots, and I now have a total of 4 individual tomato plants! I do recommend that you only leave one tomato plant in the aerogarden because it will grow extremely large. For a while, I tried leaving two seed pods in the same pot, but they simply grew too large and I eventually had to remove it. What's even greater is that we can grow more by taking off the suckers (look it up) that grow in between the stems and planting these. They are essentially clones of the "mother" plant and will completely form a new tomato plant when placed in soil and well watered for several days! It's like a never-ending cycle of tomatos!!
