What is "big" is it raid 1 for "stripe" or some proprietary protocol/mode???

BIG is where the capacity of the individual drives are combined and show up as a single drive.  However, this shouldn't be confused with RAID0 where the capacities of both drives are similarly also combined.  The difference between BIG and RAID0 is that in BIG, the 1st drive is being written to and once it fills, the 2nd drive will then start to be written to.  Theoretically, if one of the drives fails, data stored on the 2nd drive can still be recovered.  That is not the case with RAID0 because with RAID0 the data written is split between the 2 drives to increase transfer speed and if one drive fails in RAID0, all data will be lost.

I want to use 2 ssd drives not in raid on my mac mini so they each show up independently. is this ok?

I have two ssds in my pc that i have spanned to form one drive.  if i put those two drives in this and toggle to big mode, will it work? or lose data?

RESPONSE FROM MANUFACTURER - CABLE MATTERS:

Any switch of the configuration modes requires RESET on the Enclosure. And pressing the RESET button will erase all data from the drive. So it will lose data when it's switched to any desired storage mode.
