The director was very ambitious on this movie. You need some history and cultural background to understand the moral of this movie.

Since I'm just an average consumer, I don't give fantastical reviews, I shoot from the hip with my reaction.There's plenty of other reviewers that fill the gap like true movie critics.I enjoyed the movie, don't get me wrong, but if I compare it to how much I enjoyed, say Red Cliff, it just wasn't as good. Too much was predictable and it didn't quite live up to the experience I expected from the previews and the cast.I had high expectations and felt a little let down. I would actually give it a 4.5 if that was possible. It's not a bad movie by any means but when you're finished watching it, and your reaction is: It wasn't too bad, it was pretty good, then it just isn't 5 stars, imo. It could've been 5 stars without a doubt.It's like when you eat a good meal and you come away feeling like there was justsomething missing in the recipe that kept it from being great.I also give it 4.5 simply because of the actors and their strength to carry the roles so well and the price I paid which was about $17 with free shipping. I blame what shortcomings the movie has on the director.Priced properly, it's definitely worth having especially if you're a Jet Li fan.

A lot of gore. But an interesting story nevertheless. Three brothers being able to win so many battles starting from just a humble street gang is so made up.

Great Action movie that keeps your interest.

The movie was slightly entertaining, but not really accurate for the epic that it was trying to portray.The costumes were excellent, the scenery and supporting cast wereexcellent. The major cast were thewrong actors for this epic portrayal.Andy Lau has been in so many movies that I don’t see the character to be portrayed anymore, all I see is Andy Lau. And Jet Li looks like more of a poor man’s martial artist rather than a General of the Chinese Imperial Court. Plus his acting is terrible. He’s just fine in martial arts movies with limited dialogue, but in a movie of this magnitude he’s just not the right character. The story at many times is also just not believable. Like when the beautiful Chinese lady picks up a filthy and bloody soldier (Jet Li) up off the road and brings him into a shack next to the road to have sex with him. Yea sure, tell me another story. There are other scenes in the movie that are just as ridiculous. There are other Directors and Producers that could have done a far better job using other actors.

i found this movie amazing. its about civil war in 1880s china. the movie was well acted and amazing in detail. i was completely with the movie till the ending. having visited asia and seeing the walled cities build for the ruling class and seeing the warriors bow and talk with rulers from across a small stream, because they are forbidden to enter the city. then seeing the rulers deceive their own warriers, is a telling tell of life in china, amd why they turned to communism.

Historical Chinese epic story of love, power, corruption, politics and loyalty.

In questo film, il cast, è composto da star cinesi. Spicca fra tutti Jet Li che, lontano dalle interpretazioni mal riuscite di film come: La leggenda del drago rosso e Meltdown, riesce a commuovere ed emozionare con la sua recitazione. La storia è accattivante come le tecniche di regia, la pellicola tiene incollati alla poltrona per tutto l'intreccio fino alla conclusione. Bravi anche Andi Lau e Takeshi Kaneshiro. Uno fra i migliori film di Jet Li. Consigliatissimo.

Of all the reviews I see, there are not ANY blu ray reviews for THE WARLORDS. The movie is awesome! The Metrodome blu ray is more awesome!! The disc IS region free so it WILL play in US players! Avoid the Magnolia version (with its English dubbing and gigantic subtitles) and get this version from Amazon.uk. This is the first disc I have purchased here (I usually get imports from Amazon.com knowing they are my region A or free region) was a little scared and read somewhere the Metrodome version is region B but it is not. Don't hesitate to get this version. It is the same length as the American print (113 minutes) and not the 'longer' print promised by Megastar of 126 minutes. The video on the Metrodome version is outstanding...the subtitles are decent and not too annoying. Only available it original language (no dubbing) with DTS-HD that will test your foundation of your house! Hopefully in the future more people will quit being critical on the film itself and stick to the product review. Maybe we are different in the states...we want to know what we are buying! Please amazon.uk start listing region codes in product information for us 'importers'...that way we can buy with confidence. The European discs I do have (about sixty) are region free...hopefully more studios will keep releasing older titles region free (THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY is an awsome print, among others) because the imports always look better than the ones from the states. Film:Bei dem Film wird das tragische Leid der Chinesen im Taiping Bürgerkrieg realistisch dargestellt. Es war eine Zeit ohne Ideale, nationalem Selbstbewusstsein oder Anstand. Die Menschen habe aus allen möglichen Gründen sich gegenseitig umgebracht: Überleben, Unzufriedenheit oder einfach weil sich nicht mehr leben wollten. Keiner kämpfte für eine gemeinsame Sache, sondern nur für sich. Egal ob Qing Regierung oder Taiping Rebellen, beide Armeen haben gemordet und geplündert ohne dass Gesetze sie Einhalt gebieten können. Die Menschen haben damals schlichtweg ihre Menschlichkeit verloren. Damals verloren bis zu 50 Millionen ihr Leben, also weit mehr als durch den 2.Weltkrieg...Der Film stellt all diese Dinge sehr gut dar. General Pang glaubte, er könnte diesen Teufelskreis durchkreuzen, fand sich aber tragischerweise selbst darin wieder.Bis auf einige wenige Szenen, hat mich alles im Film überzeugt. Der Film ist zwar brutal, aber der Schwerpunkt lieft nicht bei den Kämpfen, sondern bei der Darstellung des chaotischen Zustands jener Zeit. Der normale Europäer muss aber wohl zuerst sich im Wikipedia schlau machen muss, denn man wird von Anfang mitten ins Chaos hineingeworfen. Verständlicherweise haben die Macher keine genaue Einleitung gemacht, weil die chinesischen Zuschauer die Geschichte des Taiping Aufstands ja bestens kennen.DVD:Wieso wird hier in der EU-Fassung schon wieder gekürzt??!! Völlig unnötig. An einer Stelle haben sie sogar eine ganze Szene verschoben ("oh ich versuch mich mal als Regisseur")!! Außerdem kein Original-Audio Track?!!Film top, DVD flop
