Accurate and easy to use and still works great after 2.5 years.
This is a very nice watch. The FT7 comes with a strap with a heart rate monitor sensor that you strap on your chest. You input your age, weight, and height into the FT7 computer. The watch will record average heart rate, max heart rate, time in the training zone, time in the fat burning zone, total calories burned and duration of the workout. You also have the flexibility to pause the workout. While working in my gym I have noticed that the many of the aerobic machines will pick up the signal from the monitor. The heart rate display on the FT7 watch and the heart rate display on the equipment have been always within with in a beat or two of the watch. It was good to see this validated The watch stores up to 90 data points. It is very easy to recall data for comparison. I opted not to buy the upload link. The upload link allows you to upload data directly from the watch to the polar website. Instead I am saving the 40$ and manually inputting the data on an Excel worksheet and using JMP statistics to analyze the data. I am using the data for many things. After 15 workouts I have determined that I can get just as good a workout with the rower and upright bike as I can with a run of the same lapsed time. This will give me confidence to work in more low impact activities to save my body and yet still attain the same heat rate and calorie burn. The instructions say to detach the monitor from the strap and wash through the wash in a wash bag every 5 exercises. Instead I have been hand washing after nearly every exercize. The buckle on my strap digs into the side of my back and it has irritated the skin a little. That is really my only complaint. Also, If I were to purchase again, I would upgrade to a model with a GPS because I like to walk and run outside. Although, for the money I paid on Cyber Monday of 67$ made this watch a steal. Update: If you leave your monitor and watch in your car during very cold days in the middle of winter, I have noticed that the watch may give some obviously erroneous heart rate readings until the unit warms up. Update #2 - After 2.5 years and 2 batteries, this watch still works. In fact I went to a fitbit several months ago but I tried this watch out again after it sitting in my gym bag for several months in my car and it still works flawlessly.

Excellent Heart Rate Monitor
This is my 3rd or 4th heart rate monitor, and the only one I've actually liked. First and foremost, it appears to give a very accurate reading. Where other monitors sort of jump around (one second it's 125 bpm, then a second later 98, then back to 120 over the next 10 seconds, most likely from losing the signal momentarily), this one maintains a nice, even and accurate BPM reading. The BPM display is LARGE so that you can really see it. Quite a bit larger than a lot of other HRM watches. It also displays average and maximum heart rates of the workout, the workout's time, and estimated calories (using traditional heart rate-based formulas). The calories seem reasonable. This is all the right basic information you need from a HRM. It also functions as a normal, everyday watch. The strap is as comfortable as any other HRM. I don't find HRM chest straps to be very comfortable, but they are what they are. This particular one is less annoying than some of the others. One ding I'll give it is, as others here have noted, there is no screen that shows you activity time and heart rate. Like, I've been working out 18 minutes and my heart rate is 122. Those two pieces of information should really be on the screen together. But that's a minor complaint -- both pieces of information are there; you just have to toggle between screens. The other ding is that the buttons are oddly difficult to push - you really have to sqqquuuuueeeeezzzzeee the Stop button to pause/stop a workout and get your final numbers. But basically, for the money, this is the most accurate HRM with the best set of features that I've found.

Perfect Device For Basic Heart Rate Based Training
BACKGROUND: Since buying my Garmin Forerunner 305, I found that I hardly scratched the surface in terms of taking advantage of its features. I was also disappointed that it only calculates calories burned if you are running outside. I know that this allows for a more accurate algorithm, but I workout in the gym 90% of the time. So I opted for the Polar FT7 as a simplified device that would give calories burned for all workouts. SETUP: There isn't a lot to do here. When turning the device on it walks you through basic setup of date, time, and personal information such as age, height, weight, and gender. I wanted to verify that the WearLink unit and watch were able to communicate prior to going for my first workout so I connected the WearLink unit to the chest strap, wet the sensors, and put it on. The wrist unit began receiving heart rate data within a couple of seconds. Satisfied that everything would work OK, I put the watch and chest strap into my gym bag. USAGE: Since the wrist unit is a digital watch, you could use it as your primary watch since it doesn't have an off button. However, I don't think it is very visually appealing, and I do not plan to do this. The chest strap seems to be designed for right handed people. I say this because it only attaches on one side, and it felt natural to me. This is different than my Forerunner which had attachments on both sides of the strap to accommodate both lefties and righties. The buttons on the watch are fairly small and somewhat stiff. While I've gotten used to this, it almost gives it a bit of a cheap feel. This is merely a perception, but it is not one that I had with the Forerunner. That being said, using the FT7 is about as straightforward as you could ask for. After putting the wrist unit and chest strap on, simply push the middle button on the right to establish a connection between the two. When you are ready to begin training, push the button again to start recording your workout. During your workout, the top and bottom buttons on the right navigate the display between heart rate, calories burned, elapsed time and clock time, and exercise zone (fitness or fat burn based on heart rate). When you are done, press the bottom left button. You can then scroll between resume and stop and select your choice. Once you have stopped, the FT7 displays your summary stats that you can scroll through, and it saves the file with the date and timestamp of your workout. You can also review your workout history. While in the main time display, press either the up or down button on the right side. You will have a choice of "Settings" or "Data". Selecting "Data" gives you access to week by week information. You can look at weekly summaries as well as data for a specific day. The unit stores up to 99 data files so this should hold 4-6 months of data for most people. If you need to change any of the information that you entered during setup, you simply choose "Settings", and navigate to the appropriate place. I was curious how the calorie burn numbers would compare to those of the cardio machines at my gym. I was able to compare with a Precor Elliptical trainer, and I found that the numbers are fairly close. While they did not track identically, they usually came out within 20-30 total calories out of 600 in a 35 minute session. This gives me confidence that the numbers are reasonable, and that what it tells me for activities in other settings are close enough. I also noticed during my session on the Precor that the Elliptical picked up the heart rate from the WearLink unit. This should be the case for any cardio equipment that is labeled for use with Polar technology. I found the FT7 very easy to use. If you can navigate menu driven software such as Windows Explorer or Windows Media Player you should have no trouble with this device. CONCLUSION: If you want an easy to use heart rate monitor that tracks calories burned, this is a great place to start. It does what I expect it to do in a straightforward manner. If your needs are not beyond what I have described, there is no reason to spend more money on features that you will not use. If you have questions that I have not addressed, please feel free to ask in the comments section below.

Got it on time and it does what it's meant to do. Great help for motioning your workout. And it's incredibly light that it doesn't feel like you're wearing it

Never bought a sports watch before but have scored gold with this one. 1. The sensor is comfortable and works exceptionally well even when cycling and vigorous exercise. Its very easy to change the battery and only had a signal drop when the battery began to run out after lots and lots of use. Easily brought a new one from Sainsburies standard 3v button battery and even easier to fit. 2, The menus are easy to navigate and the watch has all the functions I need with easy and concise data display. 3. The training files are stored on the watch and provide a complete history of training stats easily accessible whenever needed. There was a wide range of products available and a wider range of prices but for someone who wants a good, well featured, reliable device to provide that essential fun element of gadgetry to drive you to a fitter life, then this is a great choice. Pretty sure I haven't used all the features yet and I think there is a web thingy as well, but so far I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
