This is a large air purifier that can move a lot of air that we bought to help remove chemical odors from the air. On the highest setting this air purifier is very loud. On the lowest setting you can place it in your bedroom and sleep with it on unless you happen to be a very light sleeper. When I run this unit in an enclosed area and then move to another area I can definitely smell the difference in the air. I do recommend this purifier because of the large amount of carbon in it for people who have a sensitive nose or sensitivity to chemical odors, however, there is no reason for this unit to be as loud as it is on the highest setting when it costs as much as it does.

I am a very chemically sensitive person and I bought it to filter out the VOC and other chemical smells, but when it arrived, and I put it into my bedroom I noticed that the filter ( not the air it was putting out) but more of the machine filter was smelling a moderate chemical smell.I read up on it and I am not crazy and other chemically sensitive people also have this issue. I was very disappointed and had to return the unit. I think for allergy people this could be good but not for moderately to high chemical sensitivity people. I could not stand it being in my bedroom with the door closed.

Update - Appreciated how well it worked. Have had it 8 months now. Have vacuumed outside of purifier several times. It has an off sweet smell coming from it. Is that a kind of mold? Have stopped using it. What do I do? Is there a better place to ask this question?----Very pleased with the freshness of the air while running the air purifier. It has 3 speed levels. The lowest level and I run it continuously, is almost silent. What is exceptional for me is that it is in a metal housing and there is no chemical odor for those who are sensitive.

This is not doing anything to remove paint odors or any other odor for that matter. I have had it on for 7 hours on high. Maybe it just takes more time, but so far, not much help unless you stand right by it.

We purchased this to rid odors from new construction. The odor has finally disappeared after 30 days. The unit can be quite noisy but if you like white noise then it’s not a bother. It removed the odor as claimed.

This product experienced a complete failure (won't power on) within a few days of the 30 day return window. I called the manufacturer who authorized a warranty repair, but I'll have to take it to UPS and pay to have it packed and shipped. It's quite large and heavy so I don't expect this to be cheap. Because Austin Air did not offer to offset the shipping charges I suspect this sort of failure might be a routine event for them. So it seems I've purchased a worthless block of carbon for $650, unless I spend the considerable effort and money to send it back. I'd steer clear of products from this manufacturer.

We purchased this for our house after replacing our carpet. My wife is pregnant and we were concerned with the VOC's from new carpet. Within 12 hours of having this run the smell of the new carpet was gone. So far I'm really happy with the unit. Speeds 1 and 2 are really quite, speed 3 is louder, but what do you expect from a unit that can do such a large area of the house.
