Headed to the beach and pool so to us, this was a necessity.
I looked at the Lifeproof website, and they said Amazon is an authorized dealer, but NOT any other seller (that I saw was offering these). So for starters, I would suggest making sure you are buying this from a licensed retailer (wherever that be).We were getting ready to head to Hawaii for a major extended-family vacation, and I knew I would need my phone at hand at either a pool, beach, or during impromptu rain showers, and I didn't want to worry about water damage and my phone. I had seen the lifeproof case for the iphone 4 and 4s, and they were bulky, so I was VERY pleased at how slim and light this case is. It fits well in my purse, pocket, or jacket, and is still small enough to hang use one-handed.I have never had anyone complain that they can not hear me while talking to them on my phone. I have had people not be able to hear me as well using my speaker phone, but I wish Amazon would let me upload a memo that my 6 family members recorded via speakerphone as we were sitting on a couch, you can hear everyone clearly, and there is no muffled sound. I think that the problem with the speaker phone has been primarily the angle at which I was using the phone (laying on a desk or counter as I was sitting or standing next to it).I uploaded pictures that I took from our trip to show what the picture quality is like with the case on, as that was my primary concern. I didn't want to use this as my 'on the go' camera, and have picture quality be so poor that it negated my reason for purchasing it to begin with. I am very pleased, and my relatives were impressed with the quality of not only the camera on the iphone5, but also the quality underwater, many times with poor lighting. (I did play it safe, and left my phone on shore while snorkling in rougher water, as I didn't want to risk dropping it, or having it knocked out of my hand.My husband and I both had invisibleshields on our phones, and we left them on (I know it says not to...) it has caused the screen protector to stick to 90% of the screen but not the top left corner. I kind of figure that's the price I pay for not taking the invisibleshield off. It creates no functionality issues and when I'm looking at my screen, I rarely notice it. Also, I took off my case, and then the foamy stuff on back stuck to the shield. It's been just fine.I do notice a slight decrease in the sound volume of my ringer, but I use my phone as my alarm in the morning, and it is still just as loud, so I think it's not so much that the noise is decreased, as it is now directional. Looking at the bottom of the case, the sound is clearly channeled in one direction, and that is what makes it seem like it has decreased when it's in my pocket or purse. When the charging port is open, the sound is definitely louder, as it has more room to 'escape'.As for a charger issues, I'm not sure what some are having issues with. I use the apple cord to charge at home, and in my car, I connect to my stereo either via bluetooth or with the usb apple cord, so I have had zero issues.Concerning the headphone jack issue, I decided that I did not want to lose the adapter that comes with it (they give an additional headphone port cover), and so I have left my adapter connected to my favorite 'on the go' headphones. It seemed most logical, since I would pretty much only be using my headphone adapter with my headphones (and I take them everywhere I go...)For $80 (x2 for two iphones) we felt like we got our moneys worth. I am extremely happy with the photos and videos that I've been able to take, and for around the pool, and in shallow ocean water, it definitely made me grateful that I didn't go out and spend $150 on a dedicated waterproof camera since I needed a more life-proof case anyway. The waterproof camera we did have in our group didn't go to the depths for our scuba dive anyway, and so in the end, the really amazing underwater shots were lost to memories only.My only feeling is that I am now committed to this case. We both feel like once it's on, we don't want to take it on and off periodically, as that might affect it's waterproofing. In his job it's a requirement to have a sturdier case like this, whereas I teach in a 'safe' classroom environment, so come this fall, I may decide to take it off until next spring, we'll see. We do have four kids, and I'm very prone to spilling things, so this may stay.I ordered a red, and he ordered yellow, and we are both very pleased with the look of the cases, even the little window for the apple on back. I do know that otterbox bought out lifeproof, and so I'm hoping that the quality is still there. I am a little worried about the charging flap, we both felt like that area would be the one weakness, and anticipate IF it's going to break, that it would break there... we'll see. I bought it a month ago, and I couldn't be happier. I feel like I can't give it 5 stars, because I have only owned it a month, but it has been through the ringer... I have dropped it a few times, and taken it under water, but in the end, I think my car keys scratched the front cover, and that was frustrating. BUT, my other case, (a Speck candyshell grip) got a crack in it, so this is holding up just fine.

Protection without huge bulkiness
Hey everyone,I don't normally write reviews, but I have some experience with multiple cases and this is my first foray with Lifeproof. In the past, I have used (with an iPhone4) a cheap bumper case, a cheap hard shell, the Otterbox Defender series case, and the Ballistic case. Here are my thoughts on the Lifeproof cas for the iPhone5.Size and weight:The Lifeproof case for my iPhone5 is about as bulky as the Ballistic case (my favorite for the 4), and not nearly as huge as the Otterbox. Although it probably addsabout 1/2 an inch to the length and width of the phone, I am able to slip it in and out of my pocket easily, and the weight add is negligible. Even with the case on, the phone weighs less than my iPhone 4 did.Protection:This is obviously where the case shines the best. When I was shopping for this, I noticed that some people complain that the plastic seems "cheap". When I received the case I understood why people thought that, but once I had it in use, it made more sense. The plastic itself doesn't sit right up against the phone on the edges like some other cases do, meaning that it can be thinner. The space between the edge of the phone (about 1/4 inch around) absorbs the shock, instead of thick plastic and rubber like on other cases. There is rubber o-ring that fits between the front and back case, creating the waterproof seal. The headphone jack has a plug that can come in and out (has it's own o-ring too!), and the charge port has a door with a rubber seal on the back. There is a plastic screen cover that protects the front that sits nicely against the screen (no air bubbles if cleaned correctly beforehand). Waterproofing is the big feature of this case and works perfectly in installed properly.iPhone function with case on:The functioning of the iphone is pretty good with the case on, and I'm going to be a bit nit-picky here, so if you are reading this part, these are only very minor complaints. The screen sensitivity is pretty good in the center, but right along the edge, it can get a but dodgy. The reason for this is because, the middle of the screen sits perfectly flush with the glass, but right near the edge (and I mean the very edge) there is a microscopic gap where the plastic bonds to the outer ring. This is really only an issue if you are playing a game that requires you to scroll to the very edge of the screen. The home button works perfectly. The volume up and down buttons give good response. The toggle for the vibrate mode is my only complaint withe the buttons. You actually have to switch opposite of how the phone was designed to turn sound on or off. This happens because, when you move the stationary rubber toggle on the case up, the part inside the case pushes the switch down. Again, not a huge issue, but something to think about. The only other thing to beware of is the speakerphone. Because of the way that the phone is designed, with the speakerphone internal to the backside of the phone, you end up with a rattly sound. The plastic of the case is held away from the back of the phone for shock absorption, causing it ti rattle a bit when the speaker vibrates. This is probably my only real complaint about the functionality, not so much for talking, but if you listen to music through the speaker phone (I don't), you might have an issue with this.Accessories:These are great and designed to fit the phone perfectly. I have the arm band, the bike mount and the windshield mount. With the windshield mount (suction-cup and arm style), they give you a plastic ring with 3M adhesive on the back so you can mount it anywhere it will stick to. This is my favorite accessory since the suction method it uses is pretty much impossible to take off accidentally.Overall, I think this case is very good. I'm not going to write about the price because it's obvious that you are looking for a good case if you are even looking at this. I never worry about chucking my pone into a basket full of stuff, or burying it under piles, or even bringing it to the beach because the protection is so good.Hope this helps to make your decision,Dan

I love lifeproof cases
I love lifeproof cases, just knowing that my phone will be able to withstand all the elements in this stylish case puts my mind at ease. I am really liking the colour and the fact that it is still pretty slim. Great case and got it for a great price!

BEWARE!! Poor Waterproofing & Worse Support
I am an avid swimmer and water sports person. I was happy to find a solution for swimming with music in the pool and outdoors with this case. My experience was horrible however. The first case was waterproof to a degree but the motion in the water lea to leaks and a completely destroyed iPhone 5. When contacting their support of course there was no ownership of the failure to protect the phone but rather a sense of "We're not responsible for water damage" from Lifeproof. In my opinion if you follow directions (submerge the case in a sink/pool for a period of time) and find no defects initially and then your phone is ruined there should be some shared responsibility. Telling people with $1000 phones that they are out of luck isn't a great way to bolster more business. I will never recommend this to anybody for waterproofing however it has been decent combined with the armband for running outdoors.

Near perfect case
Good:- Entirely covered and real waterproof- Not to bulky- Not slippery, but not too much friction- Moderately shock absorbingBad:- Response of touch screen is slightly spoiled- You cannot connect most headphones/earphones without adapter

Worth noting
It is worth noting that the case didn't perfectly fit my iPhone originally (I have a 5c) as the volume buttons were permanently pressed down by the sides of the case. This was solved though by trimming a little of the inside lining of the case with a knife.Apart from that, the case is very good as it is very durable and has a clear plastic cover protecting the screen (something I hadn't realised when buying it).
