Love it, great as beginner or an intermediate
Loved this book! It was easy to use, and as a beginner with a history of sewing, I can catch into it fast. There are definitely some simpler patterns, and then some that are more complex, or challenge your ability to make stitches evenly across a whole piece.Only a 4/7 because some of the patterns are missing a floss color, or don’t mention you’ll need three skeins of a certain color, so be aware when you’re working through a pattern.

Good for Beginners!
I'm a new embroiderer and this purchase was my first pattern book. I've been enjoying it already made a few as gifts and currently working on one for myself. I work for a craft and hobby publishing company, so I will say I hoped some designs had more photos in the step-by-step instructions, or at least more than 1 close-up. Some of the directions are misleading and vague, and I noticed what's being instructed isn't what's actually shown. For example, I'm currently working on an abstract design that calls for "brick-like backstitches," but the stitch in the design looks completely different, almost like chain stitches, but not? I still can't tell what it is or how it's done, but it's definitely not a backstitch like the directions say. Either way, I'm still having fun with it and making my own personal twists that are different from the designs, but there could be a bit more clear direction.

Lovely embroidery guidebook.
Beautiful guidebook with lovely patterns. I love the modern look of it as well as the ease of the patterns. The instructions and picture examples of the stitches are easy to follow. I can’t wait to tackle my first project from it once the new year settles in.

Childish designs...
I thought this book had potential but I really wasnxt that impressed. I guess by modern they mean the modern art movement of the mid 20th century or at least that's the impression I got with the design marked "Abstract Hoop". It looks like a creamsicle and a carpet from the set of Mad Men combined to make a not so pretty baby. Then there's a series of images I'm just referring to as Disembodied Designs. Like a girl with no legs and two images with either just a hand or arms and no body. Also there's a design that's just dots and another that's a giant candy heart. There are a few pretty florals and the geometric heart design is nice but honestly they don't warrant the cost of this book. Maybe this style of art would appeal to children. I'm not sure but for the cost I'm pretty disappointed.

My favorite embroidery book!
I’m in love with this book! It’s gorgeous, high quality, and an amazing value (so many patterns!). I have a couple other embroidery art books and I really like a few patterns from each, but probably won’t make most of the projects in them. Not so with this one! I love every single pattern in this book - I’m so excited to make these pieces for myself and friends! It’s also worth noting that other embroidery books I’ve found seem to be geared toward beginners, but this one is great for beginners and novice embroiders alike. So glad I got it!

Beautiful illustrations and patterns
Edit: After sitting down for a good read, I love this books so much! It will get begining embroiderers excited to start and experienced ones ideas for new projects. The pages are absolutely gorgeous. You can tell how much love and hard work went into each page. I would amend that it is not just geared toward new stitchers, but does set a firm foundation for beginners. So excited to get to work. This book has some great patterns and little doodads. This is definitely geared toward beginning stitchers, but the patterns are super cute!

Great
This is a very helpful book on embroidery. We used her designs as well as mixed aspects of her patterns with other designs we had. If you are wanting to learn embroidery, this is a good book.

Disappointing
I was looking for new and contemporary, but found nothing special here. I wish I had returned it. Nicely presented and we'll photographed. I'm sure it will please many. Just not what I was looking for.

Nicely illustrated and clear instructions
This book has good instructions and pictures. The only complaint I have I would have liked more up to date patterns.Birds, dragonfly’s or just flowers on there own.

Wonderful variety of embroidery projects!
This book is high-quality and full of gorgeous colour photos and crisp monochrome patterns to use for transfers. In addition to the large number of beautiful hoop projects, there are various non-hoop projects like patches, embroidering clothing, etc. I am really impressed with the quality of the book and its contents- can't wait to get stitching!
