Andy and the Lion (Picture Puffins)

Classic Book
This is a classic story about imagination, good deeds, and friendship. The writing is simple, and the illustrations bring to life the boy's story. It's kind of along the lines of Dr. Seuss's, "Oh the Things I Saw on Mulberry Street." However, this one has good lessons and takes the form of day dreams rather than tall tales. Even my younger kids loved this.

classic
This classic retelling of Androcles and the Lion is as wonderful now as when I first read it nearly 50 years ago. The illustrations are dyanmic, and the text is limited to one short sentence or less on each page. A great book for beginning readers, or to read out loud to preschoolers.

Old childhood favorite
I was happy to get this book that I read as a child in the early 60s. I was disappointed that the images were printed on a slick shiny paper -looks like a board room sales pitch paper - instead of the slightly textured paper similar to the originals. The images don't print up the same color. I know this because I have my torn, half-lost remaining pages of the original. Still, it's nice to have the whole story to share with grandchildren some day.

A classic tale.
This was one of many childhood favorites, and not just because I share the same name with the main character. This is based on the classical tale of Androcles and the Lion, but updated for America of the 1930's. I'm glad I decided to re-read it as an adult, because--besides being a great story with a wonderful moral--it is a window into the not-yet-too-distant past. Definitely a simpler time. The illustrations are beautiful and, in style, reminiscent of WPA murals.A classic tale, a classic theme.

This was one of my favorite books as a kid. Now I can share it with my own family. I was always fascinated by the drawings.

Printed in China, lacking quality.
I am use the American printed book. This book is printed in China and is not the same size or quality I am use to. The back cover was printed on the book sideways. I would try ordering from Barnes and Nobles or purchasing at a bookstore. The story has always been a great one.

A beautiful story of friendship narrated using great illustrations.
This book belongs to the first reader category. To this end, the story is meaningful, interesting and happy. The text is placed at all the right places to go with the amazing illustrations. It helped me take my kid(a five year old) through the lines of text, urging him to attempt reading the words himself, he accepted and started reading the words on his own. Soon he was reading full sentences. He likes the story so much that he keeps asking me to participate in a role play with him being the Lion and me being Andy. His favourite part is when the people are about to attack the Lion and Andy steps in to rescue him and shouts at the people.
