I own a 1996 JD 455 diesel lawn tractor with the 22HP diesel. I bought this lawn tractor around 2005 from a JD dealer friend of mine. The tractor has functioned great for all these years with only small issues due to its age and normal wear. It always took bit of cracking to start it though. Finally just last week, 9/24/22 the starter went out completely. Wasn't worth replacing the starter drive itself and then I came across this starter on Amazon warehouse for half the regular price! I scooped it up and waited a week to get it, The tractor started in mere seconds, FASTER than it had ever in the whole time I have owned it.. Thats a huge fact for this product and if it lasts a decent amount of time I couldn't be happier folks. It used to take me at least two minutes to get my engine to even fire/hit and start. Not now with this new starter as its crazy different. Super easy to install although on my tractors engine it requires a 17MM socket and extension to reach the nuts holding it on as they are almost hidden. one 1/2'' inch nut for the power cable and all done. Battery was also disconnected, first! If your by some weird chance on the fence about buying this starter just buy it.. If your diesel tractors engine requires a long time to start, buy this starter! It blew me away and I'm a mechanic by trade.

This is a nice starter that fits properly, previous bought one from another site and starter gear hit flywheel. Took about fifteen minutes to switch over. Hope it lasts as long as original. Appears same as original.

Didnt work. Wouldnt recommended. The sprocket for the started wasnt on it, the positive lead was stripped out. Literally JUNK.

the gears do not work with tripak apu. however its the same parts but to make it work you can swap out the gears. from the original if your brave enough to do so and save yourself 320 dollars..
