Question 1

How do I know if my hair needs bonding repair?

Accepted Answer

Your hair may need bond repair if it feels dry, brittle, or frizzy. Other signs include breakage, split ends, difficulty styling, and lack of shine or elasticity. If your hair doesn’t respond to usual products, it might be time for bond repair.

Question 2

How do I know when my hair is repaired?

Accepted Answer

Repaired hair typically feels softer, looks shinier, and becomes more manageable. You'll notice reduced breakage, fewer split ends, and improved elasticity. Your hair will also retain moisture better and respond more positively to styling.

Question 3

How long should I use Alterna’s Bond Repair product line before switching to other Alterna product lines?

Accepted Answer

It's recommended to use Alterna's Bond Repair line consistently for 4-6 weeks to see significant improvement. After that, you can assess your hair's condition and either continue use or transition to other Alterna products for maintenance.

Question 4

Is Alterna’s Bond Repair line for all hair types?

Accepted Answer

The Bond Repair line benefits all hair types, helping restore and strengthen hair bonds. It's especially beneficial for those who frequently lighten or bleach their hair, as it helps repair damage from chemical processes, keeping hair healthier.

Question 5

Can overuse of Alterna’s Bond Repair line be harmful?

Accepted Answer

Unlike some animal-based protein formulas that can over-proteinize hair, our plant-based proteins don't bioaccumulate or stack, preventing future damage. Our Bond Repair formulas are proven to prevent breakage and strengthen hair with continued use.

Question 6

What types of bonds are typically reformed with bonding products?

Accepted Answer

Bonding products target disulfide, salt, or hydrogen bonds. Disulfide bonds provide strength and structure, while hydrogen and salt bonds support repair. Hydrogen bonds affect elasticity, and salt bonds contribute to stability.

Question 7

How do I choose between the Alterna collections? (e.g. Replenishing Moisture vs. Restructuring Bond Repair)

Accepted Answer

Address your primary hair concern with shampoo and conditioner, secondary concerns with leave-ins, and preventative care with masques and treatments. For dryness and heat styling, try Replenishing Moisture Shampoo and Bond Repair Leave-in Masque.
