Why would I need this instead of a standard tent? What benefits do I get from attaching it to my SUV?

We can sleep off the ground in the back of our suv. We have a 100lb dog that sleeps with us to and he can move around in a confined area instead of in our limited space. Another option is we don't have to unload our vehicle on trips and we keep the SUV packed and sleep on large mattress in tent and have out stuff inside with us. It beats the the "oh I forgot this in the truck and have to go out to get it for the third time"

Will this tent wit a 2017 vw golf?

this tent works with SUVs-- didn't think a golf was an SUV---- if it's a hatchback, sorta possible--- but think tent might overwhelm--- I would contact manufacturer
