Colormorphia: Celebrating Kerby Rosanes's Coloring Challenges

I absolutely love Kerby Rosanes’ illustrations. Fun to work on!

Pages to slick but i may have read that in a review and ordered anyway. To be fair I've only tried pablos on part of a page. Looks good, less layers and i didn't like the tactile experience as well but will try don't different pencils to make final call.

I purchased this adult coloring book from a local store the first of this year. The cat on the cover reminds me of one of my favorite kitty-boys who passed away last summer ... sending me into a total slump with my love of watercolor. I thought the therapy of simply coloring might spark my ability to return to creating my own artwork again. I really loved many of the drawing images found in this book and have colored quite a few of them. I began with colored pencil, but then realized apparently everyone else had the same idea for enduring the COVID virus shutin and the stores that sell a better quality of colored pencil had no stock. I completed a few, but didn't want to totally wipe out my supply of pencils. One day I got to thinking... the paper quality of these images is only a marginally lesser weight than my professional watercolor paper, so I decided to give it a try. YEAH! It worked. Now I staple my projects to a gator board, size them, and paint right along. I don't use extremely wet washes, but the watercolor is so much more vivid than colored pencil, it was a no-brainer to me. With that said, these pages take a light water wash very well, but no scrubbing... the paper begins to dissolve. So, back to why I bought a second book. All of these pages are printed front and back. While no problem with colored pencil, using watercolor leaves the back side pretty munch unusable. Besides, some of the double pages have something on the back that I would really like to try. This book was much cheaper than the first one I bought and I can paint the backs of the pages I'd already painted in my original book. Aside from that, there are two pages (the dragon, and the fish over the cherry blossoms) that I colored with pencil and would love to do again with watercolor. Here's two of my last completed pages (in watercolor).

Let me start by saying, I am cursed. I was born with the desire to create beautiful things, and absolutely no talent. Specifically, I have trouble figuring out shading and blending. Good news! This wonderful artist’s drawings clearly show where shading belongs! And blending based on the shading is so easy to figure out! It’s wonderful! So, the second piece of this review is about the quality of the book. The paper is decent for any medium and I tried several. Colored pencils apply beautifully. Watercolor paints and markers also work well, though of course they do make the paper a bit crinkly. Alcohol markers are problematical because they bleed through the paper, and this book is (inexplicably) printed on both sides of each sheet. If you use alcohol markers, you will lose half the pictures. You can, of course, buy two copies, but why??? The book, otherwise 5-star, loses one star for this. I actually did order two copies, one from Amazon US and one from Amazon UK. The paper seems the same, but the UK version has a better binding…the US book is glued but the UK one has a sort of cloth binding. It stays open better for coloring the 2-page pictures. But shipping from the UK was costly. This book, though, is great, snd I thank Mr Rosanes for many enjoyable coloring hours to come!

A friend of mine had this coloring book and I was obsessed as soon as I saw the beautiful meticulous artwork on each page! I had to have it for myself. I ordered this and everyone who sees it now wants it too! Amazing price! In the stores it's triple the price!

This may be one of your strangest reviews... My son has made some bad choices and is now spending about a year in jail. In there they can get a set of twelve basic color pencils. He asked if I would find a coloring book for adults as he saw another in there using one. I bought this book for him. He absolutely loves this. He has had some people ask for specific pictures when he is completed. He found he has a natural sense for blending colors and using what he has available. He asked me to order more, so far I have a couple. More men in there are now finding this to be very meditative and a creative outlet. My son has been inspired to take classes and get his GED while there and is also now drawing some beautiful images of his own. The images in this book are amazing and better yet this book is helping to bring about positive changes in how he sees his future. Who’d have thought?

This is such an awesome colouring book. Not only did I buy one for my 12 year old daughter but I also bought one for myself. The pictures are absolutely stunning. The only thing I don’t like about this book is that the pictures are double sided and often go right into the margins which makes it difficult to colour the entire piece. Which still is not a big deal. Great fun!

Très beau livre de coloriage pour adultes !! Beaucoup de détails, de belles illustrations. Papier épais, résistant à l'aquarelle !

Kerby Rosanes nunca decepciona, la calidad del papel es excelente y los dibujos son hermosos, creo que es uno de sus mejores libros.
