Why use brass instead is stainless steel?

Brass screens have been available longer so that's why people trend towards them. These brass screens are poor quality, amount to single use and not worth the $$. I now prefer stainless as long as they don't poke holes in my fingers because they are more rugged and last longer.

Is there any lead content in this brass?

There doesn't appear to be, but I am not a chemist or a metalurgist.
