Comprehensive, many fundamental techniques still relevant, but in need of an update for the 21st century

Great reference volume that does a good job describing fundamental methods that work, what doesn't work, and pitfalls to watch out for. Unfortunately the volume is state of the art 1970s through 1980s and so could really benefit from advancements made in the industry since then.
