Do-It-Yourself, Energy Efficient Natural Light
We had someone else install 4 solar tubes in our winter home 9 years ago. I decided to install this one myself in our Colorado cabin. No problems! I wish the info given on Amazon included the fact that the tube extends all the way through the slanted roof to the top of the flashing (an extra 7"). I had to order an extra 24" tube separately and wait another 4 days to finish this project. I was able to install this through a metal (pro panel) roof by cutting off 3 of the ridges beneath the bottom of the flashing. Well-written-illustrated instructions. The included caulk was a bonus. Does light our 13'x13' space. Light intensity does vary for us due to trees shadowing the roof and of course clouds.

Love, love, love the light!
I work for a roofing company. I recently had my company replace my roof and install 2 of these. They are much cheaper than our regular, local supplier. According to the guys who installed them, they were super easy. I had one put in my walk in closet and one in the laundry room. The light that comes from them is so bright I keep thinking someone left a light on. I love it! If I could I would install 10 more of them!

Love this
went together easy. We had to order an extension so measure your space before ordering by remembering the amount that will be above the roof line as the product recommends the reflective tube to be to the edge of the dome.. The product looks great from the outside of our house as well. We still need to install the extension and do a bit of drywall. The light is a great souse of natural lighting to a small dark room. Very happy with the product.

Solar tube lets in lots of natural light without a lot of heat
We wanted to replace our old 2 ft x 3 ft skylight (rain leaks and high rate of energy loss). Ordered 13" tube per recommendations for light coverage up to 150 square foot room. Our galley style kitchen is only 120 sq. ft. so we thought 1 tube would be more than adequate. Although this solar tube lights up the space, it doesn’t compare to the light coverage we had with the large skylight, so we ordered a second tube. We added the light kit for both tubes so it’s dual purpose for evening use. It’s remarkably brighter at night compared to our older fixtures, even with the same bulb wattage. I may experiment with color light filters since sunlight comes through the tube is very cool light wave (more blue than yellow). Our old skylight felt like a window which is a totally different experience than the solar tube. But I’m sure we’ll save on energy costs since skylight let in a lot of heat from sunlight and solar tube is noticeably cooler. Solar tube is nice and we’ll add more to our darker living room next. I’m super anxious these tubes hold up in the upcoming winter rains. Hopefully no more buckets in the kitchen and no more roof damage this year.Took the hubby several hours installation but learning curve was easier on second tube install.ADDED PHOTO TO SHOW BRIGHTNESS AT MIDDAY WITH ONLY SUN - SEE HOW BRIGHT THE FLOOR IS?

Great for areas that require light during the day.
Great product. I replaced my 24x48" sky light that was leaking with this 13". Not as much light of corse but gives a soft light. All the mat'l is solid and great quality. Have bought also two 10" ones. Placed one in the laundry room and found myself reaching for the light switch to turn the light off but it was the skylight light.

Terrible product
The tubes would not hold together and we had to tape them it was ridiculous. They were 13 inch diameter tubes. We went to home depot and bought 14 inch tubes, cut then to make them fit and they held together just fine. Find solar tube skylights somewhere else. And the instructions were difficult as well.

Not what I had hoped for
It must be said that the light was installed in October and we are living in Pennsylvania rather than in the south, but I am disappointed in the level of lighting it is now providing. I had hoped that the "dead on southern placement", the 30 degree roof and the prismatic option would have diffused the light more and with a higher intensity. As it stands, it seems accurate to compare it with one of the other skylights (the small one) we have in the house.

The lenses pull of easily..
Superb lighting system. Just installed these on a second home. The first home has had these for ten years with no problem at all. Every once in a while a bug may get into the lens area that you may need to clean out, but hey...that's just keeping house. The lenses pull of easily...realign the pins and you are good to go. No condensation, no heat transfer...and wonderful LIGHT without tapping the electricity in the house! WONDERFUL investment in energy savings!
