If you are breaking cables you need to fix your mower deck first
Your engagement lever should be moving into the engaged position with very light pressure. It should only take your index finger and thumb on the lever to engage the blades. If you are having to push hard and are breaking cables it is not the cables fault.Fix your mower deck first and you will stop breaking cables.Remove your mower deck, clean and lubricate the two cams that engage the blade brakes. When you have them moving easily re-install your mower deck and connect the engagement cable. If in a few months you have to push hard on the engagement cable, stop don't push hard, don't tell yourself you will fix it later, just remove the mower deck again and clean and lubricate the those moving parts so everything moves smooth as butter.

Broke the first time I mowed.
This cable engages the mower blades. I bought this part June 27, received and installed it 5 days later. Tested it, and it was fine. Today, about a month later, I used the mower for the first time to really mow. 15 minutes into the job, during very normal conditions, mowing stopped. This 4" spring fractured about 1 1/2" from the upper end as shown in the photo. Defective part or otherwise poor quality materials. Now I have to do the repair again, with this part from other supplier.

Great item
Do not panic. It does not appear as the original and the length is shorter when side by side with the old one. But It fit perfect for my Craftsman rider. I believe the original cable was longer from the factory because maybe it was used on multiple riders? I do not know. But it does work. I would also recommend lubing the gears that the cable pulls to engage the blades. My were stiff and I believe that led to the breakage. But my craftsman rider is 25 years old this summer and still going strong.

Junk .
The plastic piece broke the second time I engaged the deck. Cheap junk . Very frustrating.

Broke on the second mow.
Why would anyone design a product with a tiny, flimsy plastic connection point on a STEEL CABLE? I guess I should have bought a six-pack. Not of beer . . . of cables.

Junk
After the second time using my mower after I replaced the cable the plastic end snapped. Absolutely garbage product don’t buy! Update! So I bought the replacement cable in the sears / craftsman’s replacement parts website and they sent a much sturdier product. The cable actually slides though the housing much smoother than the junk I received through this website. The plastic parts are much sturdier and so far my new replacement has lasted the summer. Once again do not buy this garbage on here go find one with much better quality.!

Save your money, this product is cheap.
Plastic part snapped... Just like all the other reviews. Installation was pretty easy, but it snapped literally the first time I engaged the blade. I bought this to replace the oem cable, which had the metal cable wear out. Now I can engage the blade, but I have to hold a pair of vice grips to pull the cable.
