Thai Pestle and Mortar earthenware (Laos Style)

My wife is Thai, and we had one like this for the 8 years I was out in Thailand. unfortunately it was too heavy to take back to the UK, so I bought this one. I bought it mainly because of the description that (Quote)... These pestle and mortars have a long lifetime, with some lasting over 20 years... (end quote).I have had it for 10 months and today it broke, doing the maths, ie used twice a week (approx) for about 5 minutes each time, over 10 months = just over 6 hours use!!!!!!!!!!I emailed the seller and got a reply(Quote) Dear customer. by our records, you have had this item and using it for nearly 10 months. What exactly are you wanting us to do about this? thank you (end quote).Not happy with the item!Really not happy with the seller. I will make a note of the seller and make sure I steer well clear in future.BE WARNED...

So many on the market are pretty looking but a useless size.This is an authentic no frills product of a. size suitable for. Thai cooking

Big, bold and heavy and just the job for pounding a lot of ingredients without them spilling out all over the work surface

The mortar is far smaller than I expected as the usual Thai ones are huge. I was expecting the mortar to compliment the size of the pestle which is 9 inch. If I'd have known the mortar was going to be so small then I would not have made this purchase. The mortar is 4 1/2 inches high and 4 1/2 inches across. These measurements should be included in the description, not just the size of the pestle. So disappointed :(

I bought this product for my wife who is Thai and complained about the normal sized one's that you normally get in the UK and I must say that I'm very impressed with it,as it is quite big and strong and can fit plenty of produce in to crush,I would recommend this Thai pestle and mortar,but be careful as it is a bit on the heavy side.

Bought this under the impression it was a proper large Thai motar & pestle such as the ones traditionally used to prepare dishes like spicy papaya salad - which my wife loves. After waiting a month for delivery I was disappointed to find it's no bigger than the granite one I already have. Internally it's only 4" deep, 4½" diameter at the top and holds just over a pint! I'd return it but can't be bothered with the hassle.

We were over the moon to find the exact size we used at a cooking school in Koh Phangan. This is huge and heavy and was delivered by courier via papaya soaps within 2 days. Made up with it!!

Product arrived as described. Brilliant to have pestle and mortar that is big enough to make up large amounts of sauces etc.
