Is there a difference in this box labeled small dog with 11.4mg nitenpyram and the box labeled small dog AND cat with 11.4mg nitenpyram for $10 more?

Only difference is the volume of medication in the pill.  I've been buying Capstar for large dogs >25lbs for 15 years.   I don't own a dog, but my Maine C@@n thinks he's a dog.  I simply cut the 57mg pill into five segments so now I have five 11.4mg doses for my cat.

Capstar is better used as a solution to an infestation than a preventative flea medication. The pill only works for a few hours. It kills all adult fleas that feed almost immediately. If you have a flea problem in your home, you should give one pill to every pet at the same time for 3 days in a row. Then give again on 7th day, 11th day, and 14th day. One 6 pill package is sufficient per animal. You should also vacuum all carpet daily during the 2 weeks to remove any adult fleas.  Fleas can only live a few days without feeding and the eggs hatch after about 48 hours, so you are stopping them from being able to procreate and without new eggs, there will be no new fleas. I've seen some pretty serious infestations be completely resolved using this method. You should also use a separate monthly prevention treatment to ensure the infestation doesn't return.

Are the dog tablets the same as the cat ones? The packaging is misleading.

I have given these to both my dog and cat. They are both fine, and they work as long as you keep up your flea regimen. Bathing, Flea sprays Treating yard, topical treatments whatever your regimen may be. I have seen very few fleas on either of my animals since purchasing these tablets. Hope that helps!
