Paul Anka: Rock Swings - Live At The Montreal Jazz Festival [DVD]

This has to be one of the finest classic pop concert dvds ever produced. It's wonderful to experience a singer and a songwriter whose career spans decades of wonderfully conceived songs, yet has an appreciation for the music of today's younger performers. This concert is a highlight for those with mature musical appreciation and a taste for the finer things in life. If you enjoy Paul Anka's latest cd Rock Swings then this concert is a definite must-see!

Paul Anka at the 2005 Montreal Jazz Festival, backed by a great big band with excellent arrangements on a nice selection of tunes. Anka is in fine voice, tasteful and charismatic as always. Special features include a fascinating documentary about the singer's early years and development. This well-produced concert and DVD is a must for all true Paul Anka fans.

I've been a professional musician most of my life. If you liked Frank Sinatra and the big band era, you'll love this DVD. Paul Anka has never sounded better, and wraps the audience around his finger. I still remember his songs the first time around. His voice at the time of this DVD was at its peak. The band and arrangements are top drawer. This is one of those gems for people who love the sound of a great brass section, and who enjoy reconnecting with one of pop music history's greats, who has re-invented himself now as a matured singer in the Sinatra style. I salute Mr. Anka, and am totally moved by this performance!

Paul is a solid professional showman. Nobody like him in the business. His voice is still super. Can't think in retirement while you perform like he does. He is one of my inspirations in life; despite his 73 years old today his voice still sound better than others young singers.

Purchased this as a gift for a friend, and it turned out be fabulous. Great concert!

Excellent work. While the DVD features selections from his "Rock Swings" album, he also reflects on some of his earlier work and other inspirations from the music industry. Please note, these are live versions and not studio recordings. Anyone expecting that same level of quality may be sadly disappointed.

a perfection of a dvd, both audio and video, with excellent performances. Track 13 that shows Sammy Davis jr. is very touching and track 14 which immediately follows-showing the ability of various components of the band-rises you to the stars.

Good entertainer

The song performances and the technical quality are OK. On this DVD, I only select the song "You are my destiny", and the arrangements of the other songs are not to my liking. Polenka distorted the song "My way" by inserting Sinatra. I understand that in this way he wanted to pay tribute to Sinatra, but as he wrote the song he did not need a duet. The song would have gotten better on the quality if he had sung it alone.

After seeing a couple of trackson the box, I purchased the Dvd. At first I was a bit worried would the new songs pull the show down, but didnt have to be worried, what a show. Wish I had been there. Must say one track stands out and is worth the price, just listen to "I'm not anyone" brings tears to the eyes. Wonderfull to see and hear Sammy Davis and Paul singing with him shows how good both are.Well worth the money and thanks Paul

Although it was enjoyable to remember those early years hits by Paul, I found it unfortunate that the years had brought about an over familiarity with his audience. This resulted in him encouraging the audience to sing his songs instead of his exceptional voice wooing the audience. After all his audience came along to hear him. However, I was delighted with the used dvd supply by Zoverstocks
