2806 Swann Morton Retract away Handle - Sleeved , Blue

Have used these for many years. They are excellent for safely using scalpel blades for general projects as the blades fit inside the handle avoiding the risk of cutting yourself when grabbing hold of the handle, or if the thing falls to the floor - no risk of spearing your foot!!! Sadly Swann Morton seem to have discontinued these handles in favour of an inferior plastic thing - I was really pleased to find the metal version still for sale on Amazon. They are built really well and stand up to use - mine are well over 10 years old. I needed a couple of replacements as I have lost a couple of mine - doubtless they will now reappear after buying replacements!!!

I used to have one of those solid craft scalpels and kept losing its lid for storage. Then I found this, and its allowed me to carry it for crafting on the go with it's retractible blade. It's solidly built and doesn't wobble whilst applying pressure to cut through thick card.

Fantastic scalpel with retractable feature ... Won't ever go back to the old style ... These are much safer to use and cary

Well made, solid handle. I'm not quite sure what to make of it, though. It's quite a heavy handle and the blade slide offers quite a bit of resistance. I dobbed in a little silicon grease to help. As some people have noted, there is some blade wobble compared to a fixed handle. I didn't really notice any movement in use, though. I think the reason for the wobble is that the blade is a little more difficult to access when removing, compared to a fixed handle, so they compensated by loosening it a little. Anyway, cons there are, but the huge pro is safety. Recommended.

I never knew that Swann Morton did a retractable knife. It’s a revelation, easy to use and safer as blade retracts away. Standard blades which if you’ve used Swann Morton before will be a known quantity to you like it was for me.

Always a bit wary of unprotected scalpel blades in my drawer. This is the answer. Solid.

Very nice tool if you use a scalpel in your hobby. This keeps a dangerous scalpel blade out of harm's way the second after you have used it.

E' il secondo che compro uguale, perchè il primo l'ho perso. Il fatto di essere retratttile è il suo punto forte. Una volta inserita la lama, si tira fuori quando serve, e al momento del cambio, fino ad allora resta custodita e protetta da ogni eventuale problema.
