Reverse Glass Painting: Tips, Tools, and Techniques for Learning the Craft

The book very comprehensively describes how to reproduce reverse glass paintings using the techniques that were originally used. It also provides traditional patterns. I didn't give it five stars as there was no advise for the acrylic user and I didn't care for the patterns. I did appreciate the fact that if a person wants to create traditional pictures using traditional techniques, this book is what you need. I did like ideas for the paint jobs on the frames of the federal mirrors shown in the pictures, and the suggestion of what kind of pen to use. This is about all I got out of the book but I tend to paint more realistic pictures on my glass.

I feel that I need to add this review to counter the only other review that is present, which gave the book a 3.The book is very good for learning about the techniques of reverse glass painting and gold work. Also for learning about the various materials used.The other review dings the book for not using a particular kind of stencil that was used on historic clock glasses. I feel that this is unfair since the book never claimed to be a book for learning to reverse paint clock glasses.The techniques are accurate for other types of reverse painted glass and they can easily be used to paint clock glasses if you know the pattern you want.In general this is a much needed resource since there is little info available on painting reverse glass tablets.

the author has some interesting techniques and I feel that I learned from the book. However she shows no knowledge of Fenn stencils or the style of paintings used on clocks which are quite diffeent than the examples shown. Fenn stencils are very detailed compared to the examples shown.Books documenting these stencils are available from NAWCC chapter 124 which can be contacted on their web site.

The author has done a very precise perfect describing the art of reverse glass painting. Anyone wanting to learn this way will get a great deal out of this book. However I am not one of those people. I only use acrylic paints and water based products. I also learn by playing and experimenting. Sometimes in a book like this you can pick up important details you can use. I did not.

Was a gift for a beginning artist. Easily read and very instructional. Full of helpful hints and ideas for accomplishing reverse glass paintings, Very pleased with the book.

Very nice book on an Americana art form, with step by step examples

Bought for a gift for my daughter who does reverse painting. She said the book was not helpful, more for a child learning to reverse paint.
