humane wisdom
Gehl observes carefully, draws conclusions wisely, expresses himself clearly and simply. He leads the reader to ponder fundamental values in the building of homes and cities. He favors the human dimension and promotes human values as opposed to the monumental or merely decorative.

Beautiful writing
This was one of the books I read to support my thesis work. It was fascinating to read the author's observations and propositions about public spaces. Reading it was a happy memory.

Wonderful
Of course, brilliant. This is a modestly-produced book, not very shiny, not even very eloquent, but the ideas are powerful.

Not matching the reputation of the author
The book reads like lecture notes, but doesn't supply the evidence to support his claims. The references used are mostly the standard ones to support street-live oriented planning. It is interesting to see not one street scene from a truly high density environment, if I am not mistaken.Surprisingly for a book on architecture, it is awkward to read with a too narrow margin, and generally small images.
