S/A X-FD Brake Hub
I decided to motorize my felt cruiser (this bike comes with coaster brakes only). In doing so I found more braking power was needed for smooth consistent stops. Doing a little research on the web I found that the Sturmey Archer front drum brake hub (70mm version) was the same size hub as the one on the bike. I had the drum professionaly laced in the wheel at the local bike shop for 20 bucks. I mounted the wheel, brake lever and cable and made the adjustments. Took the bike for a short ride to test the brakes. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I can now stop in about half the distance it use to take me to stop using the front brake alone. Using both I have crazy stopping power. Well worth the 60 dollars for the hub, the 20 dollars for the wheel lacing and the time to install everthing. Excellent product. Worth every penny.

Dangerous braking lever solution
This product needs to have a better braking solution. The attachment between the arm and the wire is only hold together by the pull by the wire. If the wire loosens over time for instance, the cable could pop free and catch on in the wheel. Very hazardous.

It pulses back through the brake lever and even after two years of riding feels like it is not broken in
Bought this for a klunker build, trying to keep the spirit of the old schwinn drums used on the original klunkers. Sadly, this unit has no real stopping power. It pulses back through the brake lever and even after two years of riding feels like it is not broken in. Looks cool as hell though, with nice high flanges.

You can't beat Sturmey Archer...
They have been making transmissions since 1902.As expected, it works fabulously! But sadly, not manufactured in England any longer!

Great hubs. I rock these out on 1950s era vintage Schwinn cruisers when I'm building up custom resto-mod type bikes. Lace 'em up, drop 'em on, forget about them. Clean lines, solid construction, smooth stopping power. And no, the cables never pop off.
