Forget Youtube. Try it spice lovers!
Well, I just HAD to try this after seeing many Youtube videos (buldak bokkeum myun or fire noodle callenge) of people trying this ramen. I can take spice pretty well, but even then I was a bit scared to try this assuming it's probably a sadistically hot inedible product aspiring fame through people's agony. With the cooked ramyun bowl in front of me, I breathed in deep, meditated a little, and then took the first bite. I must say I was both disappointed and relieved at the same time. It was not nearly as spicy as I had expected, and it was quite tasty! The sauce flavor is akin to the popular Korean dish Ddukbokki, except it's a little more savory (chicken?) and spicier. The sweetness tapers down the level of spice, and I finished the bowl without flinching although my nose pooled sweat long afterwards. As for a relevant gauge, if you enjoy and can eat Buffalo Wild's "hot" wings, then you won't have trouble finishing this. I also noticed that many people prep this noodle incorrectly and comment that it lacks flavor. The noodles won't lack flavor if you don't dilute it down by cooking it like other common ramen noodles. I noticed there's no English instruction on the received product anywhere, so I decided to post the translated cooking instruction: 1. Boil 3 cups (or more) of water, and then cook the noodles for 5 minutes. 2. Drain water (leave about 8 spoons worth), add the packaged liquid hot sauce, and then return to stove to stir the noodles at low heat for about 30 seconds. 3. Turn off the stove, then mix in the dry sesame/seaweed package with the noodles. On step 1, I've boiled for 4.5 minutes instead for firmer noodles. Step 2 is important - you should pretty much drain off most of the water you see using your fork/chopsticks as strainer as you pour off excess water off your cooking pot, and you should have just enough water hidden in noodles for a saucy consistency, not liquidy. Stirring on heat with the hot paste incorporates the flavor and thickens the sauce. If you end up with too much juice, raise the heat a bit and evaporate off the water until the sauce thickens. When properly prepared, the sauce should be thick enough to coat the noodles and allow the sesame seeds to stick to the lifted noodles. I noticed that my received product's expiration date was less than 6 months away (8/30/2015). I will have no trouble finishing the noodles before the expiration, but it can be off-putting to buy any almost expired product. I'm not sure what the usual expiration is for the ramyun given the inclusion of the liquid paste, but the noodles didn't smell stale nor rancid as I could usually tell from almost stale ramyun noodles. All in all, this was very worth a try to resolve my curiosity after laughing so much at Youtube people's reactions, and I feel superior and stronger! oh~~ my stomach is starting to burn... Update: Curiosity got me to try the more convenient cup ramyun version of this (my packs were gone too soon!), and I prefer these cooking packets hands down. The cup noodles are much thinner and less chewy, and you don't get as savory deeper taste attained by cooking the liquid paste with noodles. The cup version's instruction tells you to drain off all water before adding the flavor packets, so you're definitely supposed to consume these with practically no liquid. The thicker noodles in the cooking packs need help to infuse the flavor in the step #2 above (the reason to leave some water to cook off), and you get 140g instead of 70g (small cup) or 105g (big cup) instant versions. Besides the packs being much more affordable, you get more of it along with much better taste when you prepare it properly. Time to order some more...

Let the spice slowly destroy your physical form!
I recently got my 11 year old into spicier foods; together we've sampled hot sauces and have had a great time with it. When he started becoming more interested in different types of ramen, we started gathering those as well - and as part of that we picked a couple spicy options. This was one. I went ahead and cooked them up, and couldn't help but wonder if maybe I was making a bad decision. It's late. I get heartburn if I eat past a certain time. Spicy foods make it worse. (Aging is a pain in the rear.) I could think of a million reasons to not try to eat these at 8PM but surely they can't be too bad, right? The noodles are a little thicker than I'm used to and I was pleasantly surprised by that. The "flake" topping is a furikake so afterwards I added some more of my own favorite furikake seasoning because it sounded like a good idea. I tried a bite, then my son took a bite. For a few initial sweet milliseconds, it was okay. It was good. It had flavor. That's all I remember about actual taste, because after that it was nothing but pain. This coming from someone who likes spicy foods, but has never done any kind of spice challenges. My son was out after one bite and grabbed milk for us both. I got four or five bites in and decided I had to stop. There was no benefit to continuing. I would make a different ramen and be done with the agonizing burn on my mouth and lips. I think my fight or flight mechanism kicked in around then and I realized that I could run from the noodles.. Or I could battle them. And I wanted more. I sat back down. It took me half an hour but I finished the bowl, and between the two of us my kiddo and I destroyed a half gallon of milk (and I definitely now feel pretty nauseated thanks to it). It hurts. It burns. I don't know if I will ever feel anything else again besides agony. I will eat more in a few days. This is great ramen.

Hot as the sun's surface, but not the corona
I won't lie. This is very spicy. But, it's not nuclear furnace hot. After reading the other reviews, I was expecting to collapse onto the floor in spasms of capsaicin overload after the first couple of bites. Sorry, no. Following the instructions, I boiled the noodles for five minutes, dumped most of the water out, and added the sauce packet. Mixing the sauce into the water and noodles, I was awarded with the aroma of a nice, warm chili sauce. After boiling for a couple extra minutes to reduce the sauce, I poured to contents into my new ramen bowl I got off of Etsy. The noodles had a nice thick consistency while the sauce had a sweet flavor and a warmth that slowly built up. A few more bites and the heat began building but it wasn't overwhelming. It got to the point where I couldn't tell stove-hot from pepper-hot which to me is as hot as I'd want to go. My nose started running. That's the sweet spot for me! I love foods that put me into that state. During the winter I regularly make chicken tom yum noodle soup and the extra chilies I put in that concoction is just as hot, but is a more sharp, searing heat while this is a "fuller' heat that attacks the whole of your tongue, not just the capsaicin receptors. Definitely NOT recommended for anyone who cannot handle very spicy foods, but it you enjoy spice and Korean food in general, this is highly recommended! I'm definitely buying more!

Delicious and spicy
I love these noodles and have them for lunch probably once a week or so. I usually make them without reserving any of the cooking liquid (just drain and stir), so the sauce is undiluted and pretty spicy. They have a really tasty flavor even beyond the heat, but there's no lack of heat either. My favorites are the original and carbonara. Original (black) don't feel too spicy immediately but the heat builds and then lingers for a few minutes after I finish. A fried egg or some leftover teriyaki on top will go a long way to cutting the heat, but I usually just have them by themselves. My son likes them as well, and he leaves out about a third of the included sauce to make them a touch milder. Carbonara (pink) have a slightly thicker noodle, less of the hot sauce, and an additional powdered sauce mix that cuts the heat a bit. They're equally tasty and don't have the lingering sting. Double (red) are too hot for me. I finished my first bowl but gave the rest of them away. The flavor was good, but don't go for these ones unless you're really good with heat.

The BEST instant ramen (and Carbo is the best flavor imo)
We love trying different flavors of instant ramen- they make a quick and tasty lunch with an egg stirred in and some green onion or seaweed or what have you sprinkled on top. I've tried the "original" black package version, the 2x spicy version, the curry version, cheese, and Carbo. Carbo is by far my favorite, with curry a close second. The noodles have the best texture of any instant ramen I've tried. The sauce that comes in every packet is flavorful and spicy- if you like it spicier, just add more of this delicious sauce, and if it's not for you, put less. It's easy to customize the heat to your liking. Carbo comes with a seasoning packet as well that stirs into the noodles at the end, making the noodles a little creamy and garlicky. I can't say it actually tastes like "carbonara"- no bacon or pea flavor to be found here- but it is delicious, and clings enticingly to the bouncy, chewy noodles. These are absolutely addictive. I just ate the last packet in the house and I'm already thinking about when my next shipment arrives.

Double the price vs in-store
My kids love these so I decided to buy online as I couldn't remember how much they cost in the store. We found them on Amazon and the price seemed ok until I saw them at the store today. They cost $6.99 for the same pack so definitely won't be buying from here anymore but product is the same so the 3 stars is due to price only.
