A guided visual walk through nature with Peggy. Astoundingly beautiful & comprehensive
I have been following Peggy for a few years now and she was one of the first people that I followed when I really wanted to expand my hand lettering, drawing and sketching. Her approach to design and instruction is just pure joy-- simple, fun, and beautiful. I have almost all of her books and this one is just [ w o w ]Its laid out so beautifully and the amount of detailed instruction is astounding. I love how there are just enough visual breakdowns to give you an idea of what to do but also let's your imagination kind of take over. Something I love about Peggy's books. There are so many beautiful florals and fauna to sketch and paint-- and fun facts along with them!! The explanations are like having her right next to you---Way to go Peggy--- this book is astoundingly beautiful!! I cant wait to bring it to my 2nd grade classroom so my students can see it --- we are learning about the rainforest right now!!!Oh and I was not paid to do this review!!

incredible book, just as amazing as expected!!!
YAY, I've been waiting for this book for a few months now, and magically it arrived from Amazon the day it was officially released. I *highly* recommend this book. If you can't draw, you're in really good company. If you can draw, get ready for your skills to level up. Peggy skips past the whole I-can't-draw creativity hangup and dives into the simple marks and strokes that compose art. Her energy is infectious, and her appreciation for the beauties of nature are well reflected in this amazingly comprehensive guide. I pre-ordered this book after drawing through her Botanical Line Drawing book; I picked it up to see if I could learn how to draw simple flowers and ended up learning so much and getting low-key addicted to line drawing/watercolor and nature art. The biggest difference between this and her other drawing books is, to me, that she dialogues through the learning process with you as you go. That's been so great for me, as a learner who appreciates hearing or reading descriptions - even though I know this is al visuals, I appreciate how she explains herself from start to finish. Beyond that, though, I love how she visually breaks steps into simple marks, as each new flower or plant becomes progressively more complex in a way that makes your learning and growth feel sequenced and structured. So, tl;dr: I'm delighted by this book, but more so by the art I get to create as a result of Peggy Dean's creativity, artistry, and talent. If you want to draw, illustrate, or paint nature, buy this :)

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!
This book is beautiful! This is my 3rd Peggy Dean book and Lettering in the Whimsical Woodlands and Botanical Line Drawing are also wonderful. Those two books got me started with drawing and have helped me improve a lot. I literally couldn't even draw a stick figure before I got these books. The Introduction in Nature Drawing & Watercolor is incredibly honest and really made me think about why creating is important to me. Also, it made me think about my perfectionism and how that takes away some of the joy of drawing or painting. There is a ton of content to help you learn what you need to get started. It includes information about pens, paints, paper and how to put it all together. There are descriptions of different plants, flowers and animals and simple to understand steps to get you started drawing or water coloring. This book would be good for a beginner or experienced artist. If I could give this book 10 stars, I definitely would!

Information
Since I am new to drawing and painting, I really like the illustrations and information. However, I would prefer if the drawings were a little bit bigger.

Another brilliantly approachable guide from Peggy Dean!
This isn't my first Peggy Dean purchase, and I sure hope it won't be my last. I stumbled upon Peggy's work on Instagram, and I had the pleasure of meeting her in person at a local craft fair in Portland. She's the best kind of teacher (and human): Approachable, down to earth, unfussy, practical, warm, and joyful of spirit. This book is phenomenal. It's perfect for quelling those negative inner voices that tell you you can't draw, you can't paint. It's also good for the seasoned artist as well, offering new perspective and a challenge to approach your art in a new way.I'm so thrilled to have added this to my collection, and I'm already a quarter of the way through with it, having scooped it up from my mailbox an hour ago.

Amazing Book to Learn from, buy it!
I love this book! I’ve been reading through it and doing each activity in a row and it has been amazingly helpful. As a graphic designer I spend a lot of my time on the computer and using my iPad and I’ve been trying to get back to basics and using paints and pencils and such, but I never know where to start. I haven’t made it through this book all the way yet but I’ve already learned so much! It isn’t just step by step instructions, I love that she explains why you are doing a specific thing in that step so you know where to apply that thing when working outside the book. Peggy is a great teacher and this is my 2nd book purchase from her. If you are looking to learn how to draw and watercolor nature this book Should be your go to!
