This is the SOLUTIONS MANUAL ONLY to The Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1. The Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1, is the classic problem solving textbook used by many successful MATHCOUNTS programs, and have been an important building block for students who, like the authors, performed well enough on the American Mathematics Contest series to qualify for the Math Olympiad Summer Program which trains students for the United States International Math Olympiad team. Volume 1 is appropriate for students just beginning in math contests. MATHCOUNTS and novice high school students particularly have found it invaluable. Although the Art of Problem Solving is widely used by students preparing for mathematics competitions, the book is not just a collection of tricks. The emphasis on learning and understanding methods rather than memorizing formulas enables students to solve large classes of problems beyond those presented in the book. Speaking of problems, the Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1, contains over 500 examples and exercises culled from such contests as MATHCOUNTS, the Mandelbrot Competition, the AMC tests, and ARML. Full solutions (not just answers!) are available for all the problems in the solution manual. Review: Very useful - This whole series is excellent. I am a retired high school math teacher and currently teach math as an adjunct. The material in all these books is presented in a clear, mathematically rigorous way. I became acquainted with the series in my work with a mathematically gifted student. Working through this and other texts in the series has improved my own problem solving ability. Review: be prepared - Got this to give myself a challenge along with the workbook, I like the way it presented the material and the examples were excellent as a senior citizen I really have to thank my teachers who taught me to not be afraid of math from adding and subtracting to calculus. Take the challenge and test yourself.

A must have one if you are serious about solving problems
I bought this solution manual along with the book for my middle-school kid who is studying math on the more advanced level than regular school stuff. The reason why it is a must have is that some of the problems in the problem book are hard and you might really don't know how to solve them. Overall, the solutions to the problems is clear. It would be super nice if authors can offer different solution paths to same problem so students can see how those different solutions are connected.

Shhhh I want to keep this book a secret.
I wish I had this book as a middle school student. I want to keep this book a secret. Let the fact that I gave it 5 stars be sufficient. If you want to know why buy the book I will be selfish and say no more for the same reasons other parents did not share the information about the book

Doing MathCounts? You NEED this
If your kid is (or if you are a kid) doing the MathCounts competition, you need to start here and know all this stuff. This is not the be all end all of your training, but you need to start here. Mastery of this book should put you ahead of 97-98% of the kids in local competitions. In short there are two types of kids in Math competitions: those that do AoPS and those that don't.

double the fun
As you can see, I bought two sets of these books. For the physics son and excellent daughter- quoting the latter: "if you didn't fully get math the first time these will do it for you. Also, you do not need to have done particularly well in math."

Not very useful
This solutions manual is not very useful as it does not give all the solutions, just the even ones. Also, the solutions do not tell you HOW to get to the answer, just the answer is given. Does not live up to its name as a solutions manual!

The book presents a solid foundation of mathematics. It adds as an extra reference to normal class work. The book is thorough and rigorous. Definitely needs a solution manual

Cheated
I was cheated! It said solutions but it was the text book and not solutions

This is the Answer Key to "The Art of Problem Solving: The Basics." They show work but sometimes lack explanations so you will have to figure out what exactly happened from one step to the next. It is definitely handy if you write on separate piece of paper and compare your work with theirs. I agree with other comments that there are times when they take the harder/longer route to solve one problem.
