I confess: I’m picky about the foam on my matcha. First of all, I want there to BE some foam, but in addition, I want the foam to be as close as possible to the traditional ideal: dense, creamy, and moundable, almost like softly whipped cream. I can kinda-sorta do this with a bamboo whisk in a chawan, but it’s a rather high-level skill, and I’m not so adept. More to the point, these days, I make my daily matcha in a tall, insulated stainless steel tumbler for leisurely sipping. The bamboo whisk requires a shorter, wider vessel for proper use, so a frother of some kind is really my only option if I still want any kind of foam on my matcha. The problem is that most electric frothers are far too powerful: instead of creamy, dense foam, they produce loose soap-suds bubbles. Nonetheless, I’ve managed quite good results using a cheap frother with run-down batteries, but the switch is failing on this old frother, so I’ve been searching for a replacement.This particular frother looked like a good candidate because it uses just two AAA batteries (my old one runs on two AA batteries), so I decided to try it. I just received it and immediately tried it, and I’m delighted to report that it works MUCH better than the other higher-powered frothers I’ve tried at producing a fairly dense, creamy matcha foam. Here’s what I do: with an ounce of so of water in the base of my 12-ounce tumbler, I sift in about a teaspoon of matcha, then fill the tumbler half-full with 170-degree-F water. Next, I use the frother, angling both the cup and the frother to minimize the vortex and eliminate large bubbles; the second I see only smooth, dense, foam, I immediately switch off the frother before lifting it from the liquid. Finally, I slowly and gently pour in water (a goose-neck, pour-over style kettle is very helpful) to fill the tumbler, being careful to disturb the foam as little as possible.With fresh batteries, this frother is marginally stronger than my old, run-down frother, so the foam this first time is a little less dense, but I believe that a week of use to deplete the batteries a bit and to refine my technique will entirely make up for that. It’s a beautiful, sleek little instrument in a nice, sturdy case, and I couldn’t be more pleased. [Just to be clear: I’m not claiming that this frother will produce foam the equal of a tea ceremony master’s; just that, in a tall, narrow, vessel, it gets closer than any other reasonably-priced electric frother I’ve tried.] Just wanted to share this in case others have also been frustrated with trying to find a frother that’s good for matcha foam.

I have several of these type of devices. Each have their own little issues. I needed one that I can easily transport without having to worry about it getting damaged. This one came with a case that is perfect. I have several of the USB rechargeable types, but found them to be too powerful for use in a standard sized coffee cup. This one is AAA battery operated and is slightly less powerful allowing for more control and less likely to have spillage. The price is about right as these are not worth more than $10-$20 bucks depending on any included accessories. This one came with a spoon and case that are both good quality. I would certainly buy this one again despite having to buy AAA batteries (they last a long time). If you are looking for something to froth your coffee or tea in a standard 10 oz cup without making a mess, I highly recommend this one. So far I have bought and tried at least a dozen others, and this one works best (including a very similar one I got from Bed Bath and Beyond for $10. This one is better quality and came with a case and spoon for $12. YMMV

Doesn’t come with batteries. Bought it because it was a longer length, exclusively to mix baby formula for batches for daily feedings in a tall er mason style jar. Like the length, but it uses AAA batteries. We have another one that uses AA batteries, and it wisks stronger.Interesting enough, it’s actually great for a slight froth in milk for coffee, but takes longer to dissolve baby formula and electrolyte mixes like liquid IV. We have an AA battery one that is shorter, but mixes much faster, I think because it has a large body it has a larger motor. The AA one is a zulay. For instance, the AA we can use to wisk 1 egg (not multiple) and make a very small batch of homemade whipped cream. I wouldn’t attempt it with this one.

Love these little foamers. This is my 3rd. Every time I need a new one it's a different company but aside from a name, they seem identical. Used once daily for frothing small amount of 1/2 & 1/2 only, very careful how I store between uses, lives on a corner of my countertop. 1st one lasted a couple years, 2nd one 11 mos. I think that's not bad for what it is & the cost, pennies a day even at 11 mos.Pros: small; stays on, no having to hold anything to keep it running; price; does a good-though not great job frothing; easy to clean; the little countertop holder that came with this one; free shipping, arrives in days.Cons: none considering price & what it's intended for.

I’ve literally used this thing like 6 times and now it stopped working???New batteries when I received it, love the zip case and the spoon but the blender is useless.It’s sad because it’s beautiful, but useless if it won’t turn on.

After spending a ridiculous amount of time reading reviews before purchasing one of these things, I'm glad I chose this one. Unlike others I've used this is really easy to use one-handed (while holding cup on the other hand of course). It foams fast but doesn't splatter like crazy. Also the clip-on storage shield is so clever for making sure the delicate stem doesn't get bent when it's in the utensil drawer. It was worth the time online. PS - even though I use this for foaming, once I used heavy cream straight out of the fridge by accident - very cold - and this foamer turned it into true whipped cream before I knew what had happened. So that's good if you want whipped cream.

I can say both types I have are similar but this one has a on button on the tip which has to be depressed to turn off. It’s awkward. The other has the on button on the side that has to be depressed to work so letting your thumb off turns it off. It also has more power.

This handheld frother is sleek in design - the case is very sturdy and it fits easily along the edge of any bag or suitcase - does not take up much room. I really like this - good value.
