I have used/installed the same roll for two different garden beds. I have yet to weed eat near them, so I cannot comment on if any markings are made from the string. I can see this lasting years. I would purchase again and recommend. Review: Sturdy and easy to work with - After warming up in the sun this edging was easy to work with. I was able to easily cut it with kitchen shears. The plastic spikes are fine as long as you avoid large rocks and tree roots.
