Simple techniques (not manipulation) that helped my dog immediately!
This book was a quick read that provided real results for my dog immediately. My little Jack Russell/Dachshund mix has had a back injury in the past from jumping. It's hard to keep a Jack from jumping. She is nearly 13 years old and had a flare up from her injury due to a slip coming in from outside. I use trigger point therapy on myself and have used chiropractors from time to time so I had a feeling from her past injury that one of her mid back vertebrae was misaligned somehow.I read through the book and was pleasantly surprised that most of the techniques were more massage or trigger point therapy with very little manipulation. The author explains precisely how to find the problem area. With her on my lap in her bed (where she's been for the last several days) I did some of the techniques like skin rolling and stretching and feel for the misaligned vertebrae. I found a sensitive one and did just a gentle hold "push" after I had spent some time with the other techniques. After a few seconds she whined a little, got up and circled her bed and then laid other other side. I coaxed her off the bed with a cookie then she stood up and actually shook herself off (something she hadn't done for a while.).I took her outside to potty and she raised her rear leg to pee - again something she hadn't done for awhile.Seriously, she seems so much more relaxed and not in pain (She is a drama queen and I'm grateful because I know when she is in the least bit of pain).Don't be afraid to use some of the techniques in this book to help your dog. You don't have to manipulate. Massage and acupressure/trigger point can help tremendously.I highly recommend and am so thankful to this wonderful chiropractor for providing the information!

The Well Adjusted Dog - An Interesting Read
My relatively large dog has been having some problem getting up stairs of late, being almost 11 years old, but I might be guilty of causing it without realizing it. He insisted upon riding in the cab of my Isuzu P/up and standing on the seat beside me. Though I tethered him off two ways, his nose would sometimes smear my windshield on the right side and he would sometimes block my view in the right rear view mirror. So when he was standing with his rump near my right elbow, I would use it to press down on his back end to make him sit, though I never impacted him in the process. But apparently this might have been enough to damage something in his rear quarters and vertebrae. When I later was massaging his back area, it occurred to me that chiropractors might have gotten into the act of treating dog with their joint problems like this. So I did some searching on the internet and found a couple of vets who also did some chriropractic on dogs and I found this book listed here, ordered a copy of it and have read most of its 160 pages and will reread some more. It is informative and deeper in the why and wherefore of chiropractic than I had expected, in that the spinal cord coming back from the head and brain through the neck, above the ribs and back to the lumbar region terminating in the tail. I had not realized how the backbone was constructed to permit the exiting of nerves from it to service muscles, ligaments and even the vital organs. I still have more to learn, but I am glad I got this book to get started, and am hoping to help my best friend recover the use of his hind quarters. I wonder how many other people make such mistakes without realizing that they are endangering their dogs health in a serious way. I hope that these words will get people to think more about what their dog can or cannot take over time, strong though they may be. This is my first book on the subject but I would recommend it and the author has a website also. Definitely worth reading, I'd say.

Good book, but not recommended for non-professionals
I am a trained animal chiropractor. I completed one of only 3 animal chiropractic post-grad programs in the country. In addition to the 1000+ hrs to obtain my Chiropractic degree, the animal chiropractic program was 220 hrs. I got this book to see if there were any other adjusting tips I could pick up that I didn't learn in my education.I WOULD NOT ADVOCATE ANYONE UNTRAINED TRYING TO ADJUST THEMSELVES, EACH OTHER, THEIR OWN ANIMALS, OR THE ANIMALS OF OTHERS IF THEY ARE NOT TRAINED PROPERLY. THIS TRAINING CANNOT BE HAD FROM READING A BOOK.I appreciate the efforts Daniel Kamen has made to get Animal Chiropractic out to the public, but I can't stand behind the one-day or one-weekend seminars he puts on, or did put on. The philosophy, art, and science of Chiropractic cannot be learned solely from a book, or in a few hours. It takes YEARS upon YEARS and PRACTICE upon PRACTICE and constantly learning to be an effective chiropractor.I would NOT recommend this book for ANYONE besides and animal chiropractor wanting to learn more about his trade.

do not do on your own
This is an interesting book on dog care but in the same breath I would not try this at home. My dog has chiropractic care so it made me interested in seeing what I could learn. Still after reading this book I would never try this alone but as far as the book, it's very interesting to read on chiropractic with animals and how it can help them.

Stimulating booklet about looking at a dog from a different perspective
Clear and concise write-up, which would be greatly enhanced by a practical component .... Having a good working anatomical knowledge helps make the most of the booklet. Recommended for vets. I say that because I am a vet.

Tolles Buch.
Aber nur, wenn man über die entsprechende Ausbildung schon verfügt und weiß, was man da macht. Dann ist es eine sehr wertvolle Ergänzung.
