Had this u‐shaped handle for my wheelchair due to arthritis everything went well until it didnt, I dont get out much and used my chair 4 times since i received the handle on 18/6/2026 and by 6th August it was broken......not good

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), I purchased this U-shaped joystick handle for a patient with advanced Parkinson’s disease who uses a motorized wheelchair. I was looking for a simple adaptive solution to help improve control and independence with power mobility, and this product has been helpful. The larger U-shaped design provides a more stable surface to grip compared to a traditional joystick, making it easier for someone with decreased fine motor control, tremors, or difficulty isolating movements to operate their chair. The handle allows for more intentional steering movements and has helped improve confidence while navigating with the power wheelchair. Installation was straightforward, and the handle feels secure once attached. For power wheelchair users who struggle with a standard joystick due to changes in strength, coordination, or dexterity, this is a simple modification that may make a meaningful difference in daily independence.

This joystick handle is so much better than the default one for my hands. My fingers did not hurt and my thumb did not dislocate. In that aspect, it was a clear improvement, and I will not be going back. There are some downsides though: The joystick rod for attaching this handle has a brace after about an inch. This means the joystick handle, with its almost two inch adapter, is sitting uncomfortably high. I could not rest my elbow on the arm while using the electric wheelchair, and often, I steered with the stick beneath the handle when I needed more control. This has a simple fix. Cutting about one inch off the adapter and the joystick handle base would probably do the trick. I haven't tried it yet, however, so the choice is still theoretical. I do not know if all electric wheelchairs have this guard, so this might be unique to Fold and Go power chairs, but I suspect it is not. Another difficulty I had was the handles edges are pretty sharp, at least to my sensitive skin. It didn't affect me all of the time, but if it stays like this, I may introduce a cushion to the 3D printed surface for protection. My sister also pointed out it is 3D printed, so any really sharp edges can be softened with a lighter. As far as control, there were the standard issues when you switch from a straightforward control to one that is less strict. But from the first moment with the new handle to the end of a day maneuvering through a tight museum space, I went from an awkward connection with many weird jerks to managing complex spaces. The reason I started this review the way I did is I didn't want to leave the impression it was all negative. The height is unsurmountable. Either I cut it down shorter, or I stop using this handle. The sharpness, if I'm lucky, wears off in time, but I have some options there. However, for the first time in a long time, I didn't finish a day in the power chair with my fingers swollen and my arm aching. I had a great time at the museum and didn't pay for it anywhere near as much as usual. I guess this means I'm chopping down the base, because I don't want to go back to my old one.

After a long battle, I finally got my power wheelchair. Then, I found I couldn't control it because the joystick was so sensitive and my hands couldn't steer it very reliably. I was about to give up, when a friend sent me a link to this product. My husband installed it easily, and it has made a huge difference. I've already taken my power wheelchair to two warehouse clubs and Walmart. I did this with winter weather coming. I'm able to navigate the aisles and obstacles with ease. Thank you for producing this product and making it available on Amazon. I'm going to be recommending it to anyone and everyone who uses a power wheelchair.

I was hoping this would work better for me than the stick on my chair. I was hoping to be able to use my wrist to drive my chair freeing up my hands to hold onto a drink or something small. The u-shaped handle sticks up higher than my stock joystick. I have gotten used to how my chair drives with the stock stick, and have been able to slowly adjust my speed by moving the stick in small increments. With the u-shaped handle sticking up higher, I can’t control the speed. It feels as if I go from full stop to full throttle. Adds too much leverage. I had to add one of the adapters to make the fit more snug. It fit fine without an adapter, but it would slide off easily and I was worried about it falling off in the vehicle. It actually ended up getting in the way when I left it on and my wife loaded my chair into the vehicle. I might end up trying this again when I’m outside, but for indoor use it’s not for me. I am not sure if I were to trim the shaft of the u-shaped handle I might have better control.
