Is the tawa flat as shown in the picture?

Yes, it is flat, but not smooth if that is what you want. The pitted surface is normal in cast iron products and has an advantage when making rotis and dosas as the heat distribution is ideal for these products. The finishing of this tawa is a bit rough and I have had to smoothen the edges as it could prove to be a health hazard for the unguarded hand. I would suggest to the manufacturers to give some attention to this detail to make the product more attractive.
