I’ve been really impressed with this beauty dish. It produces beautiful, soft light while still maintaining enough directionality to create a professional-looking image.The included diffusion cover makes a noticeable difference. It softens the light nicely without sacrificing too much output, making it great for portraits, interviews, and product photography.One of my favorite features is that it also includes a honeycomb grid. That alone adds a lot of value because it dramatically reduces light spill and gives you much better control over where the light falls. If you’re trying to keep light off the background or create a more dramatic look, the grid is a fantastic addition.It’s also much larger than I expected, which helps produce a softer, more flattering light. The size makes it especially useful for portrait work while still being manageable to set up.Installation couldn’t be easier. It uses a standard Bowens mount, so it works with virtually all Bowens-compatible lights. I use Godox lighting, and it mounted securely with no issues at all.The build quality is excellent as well. Everything feels sturdy, the accessories fit properly, and nothing feels cheap or flimsy.Overall, I have no complaints. It performs exactly as expected, includes both a diffusion sock and honeycomb grid, and delivers excellent light quality for the price.If you’re looking for a quality beauty dish with a Bowens mount, I’d definitely recommend this one. It’s a great addition to any lighting kit and has exceeded my expectations.

The dish was well protected and was easier to work with right from the beginning than the 55cm version.PRACTICAL BUILD ASSEMBLY PHYSICAL DESIGNSIZE is DECENTAs stated this 42cm version is easier to manage than the 55cm sized beauty dish. That means it’s easier to pack for trips. Whether in the post, in a car, or hand truck ,this size is more likely to avoid damage. This size also means that it isn’t as soft a light source as a large soft box, or a beauty dish.WEIGHT is DECENTThis beauty dish is metal and isn’t heavy in absolute weight, but compared to a soft box it is. It will require some care and deft handling at some angles, because it’s smooth and round and not easily handled with just one hand. It isn’t heavy, or large, but still manageable. The box and volume is ore of a concern than the weight.MATERIAL QUALITY IS GOODThis product is made of aluminum and has a modest robustness. It is metal but not thick aluminum , so have to be careful not to bump it hard to prevent dent. Despite this, its rigidity, and shape could make it more appropriate than some soft boxes in certain use cases. For one thing a rigid dish will survive much more use than repeated packing and unpacking and rigors of travel than a soft box.APPEARANCE STYLE DESIGN IS DECENTThis looks like a piece of professional kit. The surface is adequate although possibly different than you might be used to if you have used the smooth beauty dishes. This dish has a paint roller texture.USABILITY| FEATURES & FUNCTIONALITY: GOODOverall this dish is straight forward to actually use. Its technical application is a different story. The issue with rigid dishes is that you need the space to use it, and the light output to over come the output loss when using the dish, which bounces the light back within itself and outward, through the diffusion material, and or the grid.SETUP/FIT BOWENS MOUNT: GOODThis having a bowens mount makes the setup extra easy. You need to make sure that you have a bowens adapter or full sized bowens compatible light fixture.EASE OF USE /USER EXPERIENCE: GOODINCLUDED GRID: GOODThis coming with a grid is a great feature. You can add some defined darkness to the fall off of the shadows with the grid. Not having to locate one and having it included already is a big convenience and adds to the value. The grid is well aligned in quality with the beauty dish. It’s strong and resilient enough. The clips on the end hold it firm to the beauty dish. It will probably gradually loosen due to the design and wear, but can be tightened by pushing the spring clip.DIFFUSION SOCKS 1/3 1/1: GOODThis kit comes with two diffusion socks which is a great feature. It gives you more options for softening the light to higher levels. one reduces the light by a stop and the other by about 1/3 of a stop.LACK OF STORAGE CASE and BAG: BADWith two diffusions in the kit I think this really ought to come with a bag. It would be nice if there was a bag for the reflector as well. With the way things are, you are best to use a freezer bag for the diffusions and keeping the box this kit was sent in as a storage case. Because this product is modestly sized the box they send it in will make an acceptable storage case.PRICE | VALUE: GOODAt 110 USD this kit is a good value. You get a grid and two diffusions and a modestly sized dish that packs better than the bigger sized ones. The grid and diffusion material are all modest in quality, but still very functional. The diffusions are a little cheaper than you might see from a name brand, but the grid is just about the same quality. The build quality is also adequate and at this price it’s less expensive than similar products from legacy photo brands. Beauty dishes are a great alternative to soft boxes even though their light quality isn’t exactly the same.SUMMARY / RECOMMENDED:I don’t regret ordering this and I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a large or small beauty dish, or a soft box since this has some functional overlap.I rate this 4 stars because this kit is very complete even compared to some other Godox beauty dish kits. The grid and two diffusions essentially give you everything you might use with this. Additionally, the products build quality is good on its own, but great when you consider it compared to dishes from more expensive brands. It compares more favorably to soft boxes from more expensive brands than other Godox soft boxes. So this dish relative to name brand gear is better made than Godox soft boxes of the same size.
