Good all rounder
I'm sure I'll grow to love this bag. First impressions it seems a little clumsy in it's design. It does seem massive! I thought they sent me the wrong bag initially! I don't intend to ever travel with a laptop, so it would be nice to remove the laptop stability pad thing. Seems lightweight and manageable. Not sure if l could be ever bothered hiding the backpack straps with the cover. Nice subtle touch though! It's very minimalist in it's approach. I would personally like a few more internal pockets to tuck away electrics and small items. All in all it appears to be a good all rounder for people who travel regularly. Definitely more substance over style in my humble opinion.

Good quality but varying specifications confuse.
Web descriptions and what you actually get vary. Pockets and day pack attachments not consistent with descriptions.

40L vs 55L Farpoint
Worked well for my 3 week trip to Indonesia. This was my first time traveling with a smaller backpack. A 40L carry-on backpack helped me catch connections I otherwise would have missed - paid off on day 1. After examining several other 40L carry-on backpacks in REI, I went with this one largely because it’s the only one with a proper suspension and stays. It also weighs a bit less than the Peak Design (which does have a nice flexible design), this turns out to be important when trying to stay under 7 kg for a carry-on’s - they do weigh your carry on bags more frequently when traveling in Asia. After examining both 40 L and 55 L Farpoint versions, I went with this 40L and was happy with the decision after three weeks of travel. The problem with the 55L is the larger bag has no no smaller compartments - not even a water bottle holder. It is just one large compartment. This is efficient from a weight perspective, but just not practical. The 15L Daylight day bag which comes with it integrates nicely, but it’s not a day bag I think anyone would want (which is why it is not for sale individually on either Amazon or REI). It has a smaller compartment, but it’s so small that it’s not practical – you could not even fit a sunglasses case in it. And15 L is too small for when thinking about opportunities like taking a small bag for an overnight trip or in my case, a five day motorbike trip. So instead, I separately took the Osprey Talon 22 in dark gray and put that on the back of this 40 L bag - it doesn’t integrate as nicely, but it works. The Deuter Speed lite 21L also could be integrated. The Daylite does have a laptop sleeve, but it is unpadded. In practice, I want my large & small bag to have a laptop sleeve, since I move my laptop between the two depending on the situation. I agree with some other reviewers that the padded laptop sleeve in the 40L takes up a little too much space, but it’s worth the compromise for me. (The ideal might be if it were an unpadded sleeve and you get a neoprene case for the laptop so it’s protected no matter where you put it.)
