... how many cows have died to satisfy Boog Powell's appetite?
Thomas Boswell once wrote "Who knows how many cows have died to satisfy Boog Powell's appetite?" - that sentiment can be extended to include the millions who have visited Boog's Barbeque and keep coming back for more. I have been a Boog Powell fan since he started with the O's. I bought this book thinking I might get some insight into how to make the pit beef sandwich that helped me recover when the O's moved from Memorial Stadium to Camden Yards in '92. No secrets are revealed, because it takes a love of food and years of practice to become a pitmaster and Boog is a veteran on both counts, 'nuf said. Boog is a living, breathing human interest story `and that's reason enough to buy this book. As for me, it's back to practice at my barbeque pit with a bucket of ice cold National Bo and the O's playing on the internet (sigh) "radio"

God Bless Boog Powell
Very entertaining book by who I feel is one of baseball's most overlooked stars of the past. Written in a warm, entertaining style, any baseball fan would appreciate Boog's anecdotal stories of events that took place on and off the field. Clearly, a kind and lovable person, the big man was a key cog in the Orioles' powerhouse teams of the 60's and early 70's. A credible argument can be made for his induction into Baseball's Hall of Fame. Can't wait to try some of the recipes!
